Bayer CropScience welcomes Emerald Biofuels to its Manufacturing Park
Institute, W.Va. – March 21, 2007 – Bayer CropScience joins Governor Joe Manchin and representatives from the West Virginia Development Office in welcoming Emerald Biofuels, LLC to West Virginia.
Emerald Biofuels, an alternative energy company with headquarters in Golf, Ill., announced plans today to build a unit for producing biodiesel fuel at the Bayer CropScience Manufacturing Industrial Park at Institute.
"We are delighted that Emerald Biofuels has chosen the Bayer CropScience Manufacturing Industrial Park for this investment," said Nick Crosby, vice president of operations at the Institute site. "We welcome them and thank both the Governor and the WV Development Office for their partnership in helping us to make this happen."
Emerald Biofuels joins a portfolio of companies who do business at the Bayer CropScience Manufacturing Industrial Park, including the Dow Chemical Company, FMC, Praxair, and Adisseo among others.
At the announcement on March 21, Bayer CropScience spokesperson Tom Dover said, "We support a wide range of manufacturing options for our tenants at the park. In this case Bayer CropScience will manage, operate and maintain Emerald’s plant, as well as prepare their products for transport and provide other basic services to the company."
The contract signed with Bayer CropScience calls for 30 million gallons of biodiesel fuel per year and will require the support of 10 to 12 of the current employees at the site. Construction of the unit is planned to begin in June, with product shipments beginning by the end of the year.
"While this project will be on a fast track," added Dover, "we have the resources available at the park to support their expedited construction and operational needs."
The Bayer CropScience Manufacturing Industrial Park is a full-service facility that is home to chemical manufacturing plants owned by Union Carbide Corporation (a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Dow Chemical Company), Praxair, FMC, Adisseo, Reagent Chemicals and Research, and Catalyst Refiners as well as Bayer CropScience.
