Sensing and Inspection Products From GE At SAE World Congress

Billerica, Mass. –April 16, 2007. A diverse range of products for the automotive sector will be featured on GE Sensing’s Booth #2401 at the SAE World Congress 2007, which takes place in Detroit from 16th – 18th April. The products will demonstrate the company’s comprehensive capabilities in sensing and inspection through state-of-the-art humidity and CO2 sensors as well as ultrasonic and remote visual inspection equipment.

On show for the first time is a new generation of CO2 sensors, which offer accuracy, reliability and versatility at an affordable price. The Safeaire® Plus T6600 uses GE’s Telaire patented ABC Logic™ technology, which corrects drift to better than ±20ppm per year over a typical, low-maintenance lifetime of 10 years. The new sensors are particularly suited to the monitoring of CO2 leakage in automotive air conditioning systems using CO2 based refrigerants.

Driver and passenger comfort, in terms of preventing windshield condensation, is also the aim of GE Sensing’s Humitrac™ relative humidity and temperature transmitter. This provides a full scale 0-100% RH measurement and its sensor tip module can be easily replaced in the field without detriment to its ±2% RH accuracy and without the need for costly and time-consuming factory calibration.

GE also provides a wide range of inspection equipment used in the manufacture and maintenance of road vehicles. On show in Detroit will be the recently launched Everest XLG3 video borescope that offers a new way of enhancing inspection productivity in the automotive industry, where it can be used for tasks such as anti-corrosion coating checks, engine interal checks checking for casting defects and sourcing squeaks and rattles. With twice the light output of previous generation VideoProbes, with improved lenses, advanced signal digital processing and an extra-bright high resolution LCD screen, the XLG3 delivers sharp, clear images for fast defect identification.  Probes are quickly interchanged to suit different diameters and lengths and all inspection data is stored on board on real time, while internet connection allows reports to be transmitted to remote locations for instant analysis.

The USLT 2000 ultrasonic inspection notebook is yet another inspection instrument from GE designed specifically for the automotive sector. This meets customer requirements for a portable, PC-based instrument which is easy to use even for operators who are not computer-literate. It can be used with an optional range of software to provide flexible and comprehensive solutions to the inspection of a range of joining technologies in automotive manufacture, specifically spot welding.
