Next Generation Fire Retardant LS Material Ideal for Commercial Aircraft Components
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE VALENCIA, CA - Solid Concepts Inc. announces the addition of FR-106 Fire Retardant Selective Laser Sintering (LS) material especially for the rapid prototyping and direct digital manufacturing of commercial aerospace components and other demanding fire retardant applications. Solid Concepts has utilized LS technologies for Direct Digital Manufacturing (DDM) of Department of Defense aircraft components for years, but the new FAR 25.853 rated FR-106 now makes those same manufacturing techniques available for components in commercial aircraft. "The FAR rating for FR-106 expands the market for DDM by allowing our customers to design parts for commercial aircraft that are lighter, stronger and more reliable than traditionally manufactured parts" said Frederick Claus, Business Development Manager for Solid Concepts. FR-106 meets FAR 25.853 Fire Retardant requirements. FAR testing determines the flammability, smoke, and toxicity characteristics of airplane passenger cabin interior materials to assure that materials quickly self-extinguish and have low smoke and toxicity characteristics. The fact that this new polyamide passes these requirements with wall thickness as thin as 0.03 inches makes this new material a quantum leap in LS technology for use in the production of aerospace parts without tooling. Solid Concepts Inc. is a supplier of rapid prototyping and direct digital manufacturing services. Founded in 1991, Solid Concepts has grown steadily to a four-facility, multiple technology company known to be a solutions provider with project management and engineering expertise. Capabilities in HDSL, QuantumCast, Stereolithography (SL), Selective Laser Sintering (LS), Cast Urethane and CNC rapid prototypes allows for low-volume production of plastic, urethane, and metal components directly from design data, resulting in significant time and cost savings. ISO 9001:2000 certified. |
