Caterpillar AP-1055B asphalt paver features Mobil-trac undercarriage

Caterpillar's AP-1055B asphalt paver features the exclusive Mobil-trac undercarriage system, which combines the traction and flotation benefits of a track suspension with the mobility and ride quality of a rubber tire paver. The system incorporates a durable, high-strength belt with a thick outer cover and four internal layers of flexible steel cable. A hydraulic tension cylinder maintains friction between the belt and drive wheels, providing traction. Rubber tire mid-wheels provide a smooth ride and high tractive effort by distributing weight evenly over the entire length of the belt. Developed in the 1980s for agricultural applications, this technology has been adapted to a variety of mobile machine applications, including Challenger agricultural tractors and trailers, and some military equipment. The asphalt paver is powered by the Cat 3116T turbocharged diesel engine, which is mounted low in the frame near the center of the machine. This arrangement provides a calculated balance between the front and rear. The paver offers many value-added features, including an exclusive closed-loop hydrostatic propulsion system that provides accurate control of steering and acceleration/velocity, and assures straight-line tracking.
