ECM-590 hydraulic crawler from Ingersoll-Rand has direct-drive arrangement

The ECM-590, a self-contained hydraulic crawler drill introduced recently by Ingersoll-Rand Co.'s Rock Drill Div., is well suited for use in general construction and quarry applications. Designed to meet the specific standards of today's drilling industry, the drill features full engine enclosures, dust collector systems, vaposol, dual-positioning control, and vandal covers. A standard engine enclosure provides security, while not restricting access for servicing. The unit, capable of delivering 63.5-114.3-mm (2.5-4.5-in.) blast holes, features an Ingersoll-Rand air compressor that delivers 7100 L/min (250 cfm) @ 965.1 kPa (140 psi) of hole clearing power. The direct drive arrangement eliminates the need for expensive drives and pumps. All the hydraulic power that is needed travels from the valve to the function. The combination of reliable hydraulic valves and the load sensing hydraulic system does not require complicated electronic controls, and therefore, minimizes fuel consumption. An automatic rod changer with five 3.6-m (12-ft) rods in the rod changer, plus a 4.2-m (14-ft) starter rod, gives the drill up to 21.9 m (72 ft) of depth capacity. Results of the quick and easy rod changes are reduced operator fatigue and an increase in drilling productivity.
