Turbocharging used by Komatsu on modularly designed D155AX-5 dozer

Komatsu America Intl.'s 39,200-kg (86,420-lb) D155AX-5 crawler dozer, introduced recently to the North American market, offers design features well suited for construction, highway, forestry, landfill, small- to mid-sized quarry, and woodchip and coalpile handling applications. The engine output has been upgraded with the Komatsu SA6D140E turbocharged diesel engine, which delivers 231.3 kW (310 hp) at 1900 rpm for greater productivity and fuel economy. The dozer's power transmitting system includes a three-element, single-phase, single-stage torque converter. The Torqflow transmission features three forward and three reverse speeds. The dozer has two available blade options, an 8.7 m³ (11.4 yd³) semi-U-tilt blade and an 11.7 m³ (15.3 yd³) U-tilt blade. Other design features include a hydrostatic steering system, resilient equalized undercarriage, proportional pressure controls, dual hydraulic pump system, and human-first engineering principles. For easy servicing, the powertrain is comprised of modular components. The engine, powertrain unit, final drive, pivot shaft, and track frame are all closed units, therefore no oil flows out when a unit is removed. The dozer's modular design, simple hull frame with pivot shaft, and advanced monitoring system also minimize downtime.
