3-D drawing

BOBCAD-CAM's version 18.0 CAD/CAM software provides the ability to view multiple windows simultaneously for more powerful 3-D drawing, a user coordinate system, customizable dimensions, text along a curve, and long file names. Other enhancements include dynamic rotation, shifting, and zoom. Surface machining includes removal of undercut.

CAD/CAM system

VX Overdrive version 5.5 from VX Corp. provides a simplified user interface and offers guidance on designing a model. The hints are based on the most likely options required for the next step in the design process, based on the geometry just created and the tools available to extend or modify it. Other less likely options are available via the standard menu choices and tool palettes.

Advanced mechanical drawing tool

CADKEY GraphX version 20 advanced mechanical drawing software allows users to create accurate drawings quickly from scratch or from solid, surface, and polygon models that are imported from other systems, including ACIS and Parasolid models. It uses intelligent dimensioning on native or imported drawings to help prevent costly manufacturing errors by prohibiting the creation of dimensions that do not match geometry or are not properly constructed. Flexible file referencing allows referenced geometry to be stored in separate files or grouped in one file for optimum data organization.

Machining system

Mastercam Mill Level 3 from CNC Software, Inc. features four significant multi-axis enhancements. Its Focus Cutting is a tool containment feature that transitions between two preset points of shank clearance to permit much deeper cutting with a single toolpath. Complete Tip Control checks the tool tip against a plane, a rail, or multiple surfaces to assure an accurate, gouge-free cut. Tool Axis Control is enhanced to set the axis automatically or manually within lines, points, or at surface normal; it also controls tool gouging. Shank Containment performance is critical during 5-axis machining of an internal area that is broader than the surface opening in the part. Users can specify a point about which the shank will pivot, or create a boundary of any shape beyond which the shank will not pass.

Troubleshooting software

The North American Die Casting Association and GVI have collaborated to form AL EX, NADCA Version troubleshooting software. The software enables users to solve nonconformity problems and increase their level of autonomy and knowledge. With its 3-D graphics and imaging, users can compare these problems with all those identified by industry experts. Designed for aluminum die casting, it can measure and record production parameters so that defects or processing errors are not duplicated. It guides operators gradually through possible defect remedies.
