Debris-resistant bearings

Timken Debris Solutions is an integrated program from the Timken Co. that combines a bearing with an analytical service package to extend bearing life, reduce downtime, and enhance performance in debris-contaminated industrial applications. The program features a debris-resistant bearing that uses a proprietary manufacturing process to optimize its mechanical properties—such as strength, ductility, and toughness—while deterring crack initiation and propagation. The service component of Timken Debris Solution features Debris Signature Analysis (DSA), a sophisticated diagnostic technique that uses computer-based modeling to simulate a variety of debris-contaminated conditions and their impact on bearing performance. DSA is used in the design of new equipment, analyzing existing conditions, and for preventive maintenance.


Aluminum cam caps

Powdered-metal aluminum cam caps from GKN Sinter Metals feature Z-Loc technology, which allows location dowels and/or special should bolts to be eliminated and improves relocation fit after line boring, cap removal, and reassembly. Bolt-up studies comparing doweled cam caps to Z-Loc cam caps show a significant improvement in realignment capability. Microporosity allows for retention of oil that aids in lubrication of the camshaft during cold starts. The Z-Loc features are formed by a common punch during the power-compaction process.


Reversing strobe lights

Brigade Electronics has introduced two BACK-BLITZ reversing strobe-light systems developed to provide an additional reversing aid when noise is a site-sensitive issue. The BZ-275 is a two 75-W strobe-head model with control box, connectors, and cable. It can also be fitted with a changeover relay to enable it to switch from backup alarm to strobe light when required. The BZ-3610 is a self-contained unit connected straight into reverse gear for its power feed, simplifying fitting and reducing installation costs. It has a single-head 10-kW strobe light. Both systems feature high-intensity quad-flash units for maximum visibility.


High-comfort seat

The Actimo range of seats from Grammer feature a new air-suspension system designed to compensate for vibrations in construction vehicles. Vertical vibrations and jolts are minimized by the seat's low natural frequencies, preventing the buildup of violent rocking. The wide scissors-type suspension also provides support for heavy off-center seat loads such as control boxes and lever mounts. The seat is fitted with an automatic positioning system for easy seat adjustment. It has a 210-mm (8-in) fore/aft adjustment; a high, deeply molded seatback with up to an 80° recline angle; and side extensions for maximum back and lumbar support. The pneumatic lumbar support protects an operator's spinal disks and is adjusted with the touch of a button. The seat's climate system, with an integrated activated-carbon layer underneath absorbs perspiration and releases the moisture after the seat is vacated.


Quick-action fasteners

Protex offers over 700 rigid, spring-loaded, and screw-adjustable quick-action over-center fasteners—or draw latches—in a choice of stainless or zinc-plated steel, the largest with a breaking strength of 30 kN (6700 lb). Off-highway applications of the company's fasteners, latches, and clamps include panels, covers, guards, lockers, bonnets, tanks, hoses, cables, cylinders, and drums. A lockable panel latch, finished in electrophoretic black, fastens down the GRP cover of the side-mounted Perkins 1000 Series engine on JCB Loadall telescopic trucks.
