Error 404--Not Found

From RFC 2068 Hypertext Transfer Protocol -- HTTP/1.1:

10.4.5 404 Not Found

The server has not found anything matching the Request-URI. No indication is given of whether the condition is temporary or permanent.

If the server does not wish to make this information available to the client, the status code 403 (Forbidden) can be used instead. The 410 (Gone) status code SHOULD be used if the server knows, through some internally configurable mechanism, that an old resource is permanently unavailable and has no forwarding address.

Noncontact torque sensing

FAST Technology has introduced Embedded Magnetic Domain (EMD) technology, which uses a sophisticated combination of magnetic induction and electronic processing to directly, instantaneously, and accurately measure torque from a static or rotating shaft without contact, in hostile environments, and at low cost. FAST Technology magnetizes a region of the shaft according to specific magnetic patterns, then employs a proprietary circuitry and signal conditioning to measure the magnetic field alterations generated through the twisting of the shaft as torque is applied. Using this EMD method, torque can be measured as far as 10 mm (0.4 in) from the shaft through dirt, fluids, and even other nonmagnetic materials at any shaft speed and with minimal hysteresis.

Electronic connector catalog

PEI-Genesis has developed a new catalog for engineers and procurement people to specify electronic connectors and improve their productivity. The "Connector Solution Guide for Commercial, Industrial, Harsh Environment, and Military Applications" includes 266 pages of solutions to connector needs, including a comparison chart for 23 connector series, layouts and dimensions, detailed illustrations, test data, technical specifications, and assembly instructions. The catalog is available in print, on CD, and on the company's website.

Compact accelerometer

Designed to fit in limited space, the compact LSM accelerometer from Jewell Instruments is approximately the size of a 25-mm (1-in) cube. The unit, with an input range from ± 5 to ± 20 g, is suitable for radar leveling, altitude heading and reference systems, train braking/banking, and autopilot applications. The LSM provides a full range output of ±5.0 V dc ±1%, and has an operating temperature range from -55 to +95°C (-67 to +203°F). Its survival temperature range is 65 to 105°C (-85 to +221°F). It has a mass of 57 g (2 oz); a shock rating of 100 g, -11 ms, and 1/2 sine; and its seals meet MIL-STD 202, Method 112.

Multi-function handle

ITT Industries, Cannon's multi-function grip handle was designed specifically for the robust demands of the off-highway industry. Expanding the company's range of standard multi-function grips and using the latest in switch technology, the MFGS3 can incorporate five momentary switches and optionally two rockers. The complete assembly, consisting of housing, cable, and momentary and rocker switches with PCB, achieves resistance to ingress of dust and water according to IP65. Connecting cables are contained inside an internal tube. The handle features soft-touch over-molding and an adjustable palm-rest to fit any size hand.

Tire-pressure monitor

Fleet Specialties Div. of FTC has released its next-generation Tire Sentry, a wireless monitoring system that uses Superhetrodyne and surface acoustic wave RF technology to continuously monitor the tire pressure of trucks and off-highway vehicles while in transit or in the yard. The system consists of pressure sensors (or electronic valve caps) that attach to the existing (or dedicated) valve-stems. The tire sensors have a mass of less than 28 g (1 oz) and are powered by batteries that last two to three years and are easily replaceable; installation does not require removing the wheels or tires. A 50-mm (2-in) round dash instrument displays any tire that is losing air pressure long before the tire is damaged or has undergone extensive heat build-up or tread loss.
