High-performance DSP

The ADSP-21161 SHARC DSP from Analog Devices, Inc. is the latest member of the Super Harvard Architecture (SHARC) family of programmable digital signal processors (DSP). Capable of 600 million floating-point operations per second, the device provides more than three times the performance of comparable models at about the same price. Applications include voice recognition, professional and high-end consumer audio, motor control, instrumentation, and wireless communications.

Capacitive accelerometer

Kistler Instrument Corp.'s Capacitive K-Beam Accelerometer Series features a three-layer silicon micromachined sensing element for steady-state and dynamic measurements. The 8305A offers three basic units having a measuring range of ±2, ±10, and ±25 g and sensitivities of 500, 100, and 40 mV/g, respectively. With a mass of only 6.5 g (0.2 oz), the devices are available either with a single-ended output or a differential output.

Piezoelectric accelerometer

Endevco's Series 65 is a miniature, triaxial piezoelectric accelerometer with integral electronics designed to measure modal responses in three orthogonal axes simultaneously on lightweight structures. The unit is adhesive-mounted and distinguished by its high output sensitivity, high resolution, good frequency response (1-6 kHz), and low-impedance output.

Electrical distribution module

The Series 3000 Vehicle Electrical Center (VEC) from Cooper Bussman-Automotive Products is a flexible power distribution module developed for a variety of vehicle harness systems. With the VEC, connections are made through external plug-in keyed connectors. Designed to meet any requirement, four eight-way, 280 Series Metri-Pack color-coded connectors are offered: two each on two sides of the module, and two two-pole input 800 Series Metri-Pack connectors on the rear of the module. The VEC uses 3-D Matrix technology. Flexible arrangement of horizontal tracks and vertical pins allows power distribution and control circuits to be imposed on the matrix. The fundamental element is a copper alloy grid, typically stacked in two or three layers to develop a single power distribution module. A 3-D circuit module is formed by inserting connecting pins in the grid matrix. Once the grids have been coded with the circuit information and stacked to form the 3-D array of circuit traces, the unit becomes a 3-D circuit module capable of carrying sizable circuit loads, presently up to 200 A.

Linear imager sensor

Photon Vision Systems' Enhanced Linear Imager Sensor, designed for lower cost, large pixel applications, offers improved features such as low noise, low dark current pixels, enhanced dynamic range, and high sensitivity. The sensor's applications include barcode reading, contact scanning, laser triangulation, position displacement, and spectroscopy. The addition of a sample and hold circuit that allows simultaneous exposure of all pixels makes the imager well suited for applications that require a strobe light or that capture short duration events. These imagers use proprietary Active Column Sensor technology for ultra-low noise video.
