Transmission controls

SmartDrive electronic systems from Poclain Hydraulics include electronic traction control as well as complete transmission control. The systems are designed to operate alone or as part of a complete vehicle control system, and include CAN bus interface for communication with other vehicle electronics. The suite includes SmartDrive Off-Road for electronic traction control, SmartDrive Master for vehicle transmission control, and the SmartDrive Premier that includes both the Off-Road and Master systems in one complete package.

Multiplex control

HED has expanded its line of CANLink J1939 multiplex control products. The twelve new module types and configurations offer a broader system design capability than previously was available. The family of products is supported by HED-provided laptop software that allows the customer to custom-configure the system and perform electrical system diagnoses through screens that use logic statements or ladder-logic diagrams. Forming smart vehicle and machine systems, the HED CANLink line of microprocessor-based multiplex products allow system controllers, sensors, and actuators to intelligently communicate with each other at 250 kb/s through a single twisted pair of wires.

Grade transmitter

The Spectra Precision Laser GL700 series of grade transmitters from Trimble are for general construction and agriculture applications. The GL700's wireless control allows the user to remotely change grade, reverse grade direction for road crown construction, change grade without a ladder, and automatically align the grade. The Automatic Axis Alignment feature enables either side of any grade axis to be aligned within 40° of the remote point. The Planelok feature eliminates beam drift by locking the laser beam to a fixed elevation all day regardless of wind or temperature changes. Two-way remote control allows access to all transmitter functions and grades.

Absolute positioning

While continually updating incremental position information, the Temposonics R Series AQB quadrature interface sensor from MTS Systems Corp. generates an absolute position output either upon power-up or after receiving an input signal from the controller interface. It is also possible to program important sensor parameters such as resolution and pulse frequency from the field. Unlike typical encoder outputs, the AQB interface provides regularly updated position information at the user-specified pulse frequency. The pulse frequency of the sensor can be varied from 8 kHz to 1 MHz. For the highest-resolution setting, position update times are less than 1.5 ms for stroke lengths up to 100 in (2540 mm).

Electric actuators

The Kodiak electric linear actuators from Bear Linear LLC lift or move loads up to 2000 lb (900 kg). Standard operating speeds are 0.5 to 2.4 in/s (13 to 60 mm/s) at rated loads, with standard stroke lengths being 4 to 24 in (100 to 610 mm). The actuators have a patent-pending ball bearing supported extension rod that can tolerate greater misalignment and side load than older designs. The ball bearing driveline support system also reduces motor current draw and operates more quietly than previous actuators. The housings are protected with TGIC polyester powder coat with a 500 h salt-spray rating.

Power connectors

The first offering in the new line of 600-V (ac or dc) AMP power connectors from Tyco Electronics is a two-pole, 50-A version. The connectors employ a genderless mating design that allows a mated pair to be assembled with two identical mating halves. The cold-headed contacts are silver-plated copper for low resistance and enhanced conductivity, and feature a self-cleaning design, which minimizes arcing by scraping corrosion from mating surfaces after each mating cycle. The connectors are rated for up to 10,000 mating cycles and can be used in demanding applications such as electric vehicles, material-handling equipment, forklifts, and power supplies.
