Rugged-duty keypad

StacoSwitch has introduced the 1X6 MET (molded elastomer technology), a six-position keypad with single-pole, single-throw momentary action switches. Each actuation button has customer-defined, laser-etched legends on a durable plastic keycap that provides the user with enhanced tactile feel. The 1X6 is compatible with the company's other MET keypads. It can be lighted or unlighted. Its ability to resist dust, water, and humidity makes it suitable for manufacturing, industrial, and other harsh environments.

Electronic contact

The RSF RAST 5 PS Series from JST Corp. provides fast, positive locking to the 0.25 x 0.032 in (6.35 x 0.813 mm) tabs commonly found on devices such as controls, switches, and printed circuit boards. A special contact-locking spring engages with the tab hole, preventing accidental unmating in high-vibration environments. By pulling on the housing the locking spring is depressed, releasing it from the hole in the tab. The housings are designed in accordance with the European RAST 5 Specifications for spacing, keying, and polarization. Applications include large and small appliances, HVAC, and lawn and garden equipment.

Snap-in circuit breaker

The 1658-F Series thermal circuit breakers from E-T-A Circuit Breakers are low-cost thermal circuit breakers that feature plastic flanges to grip panel openings, allowing the breaker to be snapped into place without the need for panel modifications. Available in ratings from 5 to 30 A, the new single-pole circuit breaker is suitable for ac systems up to 250 V and dc systems up to 28 V. Tripping action is provided by a thermally activated disc bimetal. The 1658-F does not have exposed metal parts that could conduct current or heat, except for its terminals. Typical applications include marine craft cockpits, motors, and other high-volume equipment.

Piezoresistive sensors

Advanced Custom Sensors, Inc.'s new Model 7280 compensated piezo-resistive pressure sensors are designed for cost-sensitive applications that require calibrated performance over a wide temperature range. They feature a silicon sensor element with a thick-film ceramic substrate packaged in a dual-in-line configuration that is intended for printed circuit board mounting. Temperature compensation is provided over a range of 0 to 60°C (32 to 140°F) using laser-trimmed resistors. An additional trimmable resistor is included to adjust the gain of an external differential amplifier. Typical applications include airflow monitors, HVAC, and industrial automation.

Rugged pressure transducer

The Model 243/343 pressure transducer from Viatran Corp. was designed for high-volume, rugged off-highway applications. The series was designed for measurements of 0-300 to 15,000 psi (0-2070 to 109,000 kPa). Model 243 offers a standard output of 0-5 V dc, while the 343 has a 4-20 mA output standard. The 243 can be modified to an output of 0-10 V dc, though a minimum 15-V dc supply voltage is required. The small size of the series allows them to fit in restricted spaces, while the rugged design has no oil fill, isolation diaphragms, or silicon sensing chips that tend to fail in demanding industrial applications. The all-welded, stainless-steel transducers are hermetically sealed with no adjustment control, providing an airtight and watertight atmosphere that prevents contamination from the environment.

Tantalum chip capacitor

KEMET Electronics Corp.'s new EIA-standard, B-case organic polymer tantalum chip capacitor, the KO-CAP T520B, offers high capacitance in a small footprint. It is a drop-in replacement for a 1210 high-capacitance ceramic and can save board space as a replacement for C- and D-sized tantalum chips. With the reduced ESR (70 mW), there is enhanced capacitance retention in higher frequencies. The company is offering the B-case size in 47 µF rated at 6.3 V, 68 µF at 4 V, and 100 µF at 3 V.

Emissions-data sensing

Delphi Corp.'s INTELLEK high-temperature sensor helps monitor the exhaust stream, protect vehicle emissions-control devices, and provide feedback to the engine manag-ement system to reduce exhaust emissions. It contains a resistance-temperature-detector sensing element on a planar alumina substrate. It measures vehicle exhaust-gas temperatures at the catalytic converter, NOx absorber, particulate filter, and other locations. General applications for the sensors include light-, medium-, and heavy-duty off-highway diesel engines; gasoline engines; PEM or solid-oxide fuel cells; and industrial furnaces or toxic environments.
