Hydroforming press

Interlaken Technology Corp.'s new hydroforming press is a computer-controlled hydraulic type with data acquisition and can be used for both tube and sheet applications. The company's UniPress Control System uses Windows-compatible software that enables users to build motion and force profiles designed to fit specific forming needs. The multichannel, closed-loop control system is easily programmed to handle event as well as time dependencies.

Conveyor oven

The no. 827 electric belt conveyor oven from Grieve Corp., designed for preheating fabric panels, features a 760-mm- (30-in-) wide mesh Teflon-coated conveyor belt with 0.19-kW (0.25-hp) motor drive; variable speed from 0.15 to 3 m/min (0.5 to 10 ft/min); a 1980-mm- (78-in-) long open belt loading zone; a 3050-mm- (120-in-) long insulated heat zone with recirculated airflow; and a 990-mm- (39-in-) long open unloading zone. Installed in Incoloy sheathed tubular heating elements is 40 kW (54 hp) of power.

Machine tool software

DP Technology and Haas Automation now offer ESPRIT Machinist Version 3.0, which features the capability of Haas Quick Code programming on a PC and includes turning functionality as well as the milling functionality of previous versions. Machine tool customers can program both mills and lathes on their PC using the familiar Windows interface. The software includes a complete G-code text editor and drop-down menus for drill/tap/bore, pocket milling, and lathe machining cycles.

Smart maintenance module

Hunkar Laboratories has added an alternative machine recommendation feature to its Smart Maintenance Wizard module that automatically matches tools with machine capability then recommends alternative molding machines to use when the primary machine is unavailable due to repair or operating performance degradation. This feature, which works in connection with the company's real-time automated machine and tool scheduler analysis, is designed to quickly provide plant personnel a resource to ensure quality parts can be made by another machine without the usual long trial and error test process.

CAM software

CGTech's Vericut Version 5.0 features numerous enhancements, including the ability to export an as-machined solid model in a format that can be used in CAD programs. It virtually eliminates the process of manually proving-out NC programs by simulating the machine process on a computer. The software uses G-codes or direct CAM output to simulate milling, drilling, turning, wire EDM, and mill/turn machining operations. NC programmers can correct errors and remove inefficient motion before sending part programs to the shop.
