Perkins' cast-iron diesel

The latest addition to Perkins Engines' 1000 Series range is the four-cylinder, naturally aspirated 1004-42, which offers a general industrial rating of 64 kW (86 hp) at 2400 rpm and a torque-rise rating of 56 kW (75 hp) at 2000 rpm. With a 103-mm (4-in) bore, the 1004-42 is the larger-bore successor to the original Perkins 1000 and its predecessor, the 4.236. Torque has been improved by 11% and, when needed, it provides up to a 33% torque rise. The engine has a completely new cast-iron cylinder block and head. The stronger structure keeps the bore true, enhancing both life expectancy and high oil containment; particulate emissions are thus lower.

Dana's front-end loader axles

As part of the Hercules Axle Series, Dana Corp.'s Off-Highway Systems Group developed axle models 37R116 and 43R175 especially for front-end loaders. An integrated pin planetary carrier design eliminates seals and possible oil leak paths. Large capacity spindle and bearing lead to wider tracks and tire ranges. The central housing with its closed cylinder design eliminates a bolt-on-pinion cover and provides a rigid ring and pinion set mounting. The deep six-to-one planetary ratios reduce the torque on the axle shaft and allow for a lower numerical ring and pinion ratio at the same axle output torque.

Torque-hub planetary drives

Fairfield Manufacturing's S80 planetary drive (shown) fills the gap in the existing 90 and 50 Series product line. Output rating is 90,400 to 180,800 N•m (66,700 to 133,400 lb•ft). The existing ratio is 35:1, with the potential for the development of future ratios. The firm's C Series is more compact, offering customers ratings from 14,000 to 110,000 N•m (10,325 to 81,100 lb•ft). By designing these drives to have inputs that accept standard SAE-style motors without compromising overall package length, users benefit by the elimination of cartridge motors. Another design feature is the integrated Torque-Lock brakes.

Driveline solutions

Newage Transmissions Ltd. launched a range of off-highway vehicle axles, traction, and transfer gearboxes. The 215, 415, 615, and 915 rigid-axle series are for general off-highway applications, including construction, materials handling, and industrial vehicles. The 215 and 415 series axles are designed for 3- and 5-t (3.3- and 5.5-ton) vehicle types. Both units feature double-reduction gearing, with 14.8:1 or 18.04:1 drive ratios as standard. Models 615 and 915 are all-mechanical units for heavy-duty off-highway vehicles up to 10-t (11-ton) axle loading.

Multi-fuel engines from Nissan

Six multi-fuel engines from Nissan Industrial Engine feature electronic fuel injection. The latest models provide improved governor response, better fuel economy, and stronger torque characteristics. Models include the A15 1.5-L at 25 kW (34.1 hp); the CG 13 1.3-L at 31 kW (42 hp); and three "common block" H-Series engines that include the H15 1.5-L 32 kW (43 hp), H20 2.0 L 40 kW (54 hp), and H25 2.5-L 46 kW (62 hp) model. The most powerful Nissan engine is the model TB42 inline six at 4.2 L and 113 kW (152 hp). Applications include lift trucks, chippers, shredders, aerial platforms, and generator sets.
