Overhung load adaptors

Motor pump bearing wear caused by overhung loading in timber handling and processing equipment can be eliminated using one of the large model Overhung Load Adaptors (OHLA) from Zero-Max, Inc. In timber equipment drivetrains, the OHLAs extend pump and motor bearing life by absorbing axial and radial stresses in their own bearings and mass. In the damp, corrosive environments of timber handling, these adaptors also protect the pump and motor shaft seal. Model 1500 provides a radial load capacity of up to 32,885 kg (72,500 lb) and absorbs potentially damaging vibration and stress at both input and output sides at speeds up to 2600 rpm.


Heavy-duty brake

Poclain Hydraulics' Dyna+ bearing support meets the braking needs of heavy vehicles traveling at higher speeds and in off-road applications. The brake's self-contained design eliminates component wear and performance degradation due to external contamination, and it eliminates maintenance requirements of brake shoes and pads. The multi-disc brake operates hydraulically both as a progressive service brake as well as a fail-safe parking brake and is cooled automatically during normal operation using the vehicle's hydraulic transmission oil.


Centrifugal filters

Fleetguard's centrifugal filters, designed for all 18-L and larger diesel engines, reduce emissions, extend drain intervals, and remove contaminants in lube oil that wear down valve bridges and fuel injectors, plug filters, and cause bearing failure and sludge formation. The filters remove very small particles and soot. The company's patented ConeStaC technology allows equipment to operate in extended service environments with lower replacement parts and labor costs. The system provides for longer filter life, cleaner oil, and lower engine wear rates and is completely disposable, meaning less environmental waste and less environmental impact.


Cummins' 18-cylinder mining engine

Cummins Inc. claims its new 18-cylinder, 78-L QSK78 engine delivers more power than any other engine in the mining industry. The 2610-kW (3500-hp) QSK78 was designed by Cummins in conjunction with Komatsu through their technical joint venture, Industrial Power Alliance (IPA), and is built at the Cummins plant in Daventry, England. The engine features Cummins' most advanced electronic engine management and air-handling technology, capable of operating in severe conditions, including altitudes as high as 3600 m (12,000 ft), without derate. Cummins claims that the key to the QSK78's performance advantage is in its design—two-stage turbocharging with intercooling and aftercooling features to provide the engine with cool, highly compressed air at high altitudes for higher efficiency, lower emissions, and smoke control.


Fuel priming system

Reverso's FP-301D and FP-301S compact fuel priming systems use a gear pump for moving fuel into the line and purging trapped air from primary and secondary filters as well as the engine. When not in use, the systems pemit unrestricted fuel flow to the engine. To avoid damaging delicate, modern fuel systems, the units are equipped with an internal pressure release valve. The FP-301D is designed for left-to-right fuel flow, and the FP-301S accommodates right-to-left fuel movement. Both products are available for 12- or 24-V dc operation.
