Cummins Tier 2 engines

Cummins Inc. will meet the Tier 2 emissions standards with mechanical and electronic B and C Series engines that offer a product range from 60 to 340 hp (45 to 255 kW). The underground-mining B3.3 engine has a parent bore block that is rebuildable as well as mechanical fuel injection. The four-cylinder B3.9 shares a platform with the six-cylinder B5.9, with a Holset turbocharger that optimizes engine breathing across the engine speed range to provide robust power for agriculture and construction applications. Externally identical to the B3.9 but with a longer piston stroke, the increased-displacement B4.5 provides additional low-end torque and is available in either turbocharged or naturally aspirated ratings. Cummins is also extending its Quantum System to include four- and six-cylinder models from 110 to 275 hp (82 to 205 kW). The Quantum System uses proprietary electronic controls to manage everything from fuel delivery and power curve shaping to protection features and data management.

Carraro CVT

Carraro's continuous variable transmission (CVT) is a closed-circuit hydrostatic driveline developed for applications up to 100 kW (134 hp). Its compact configuration allows for placement in a range of vehicles in the construction, farming, forestry, and mining industries. The CVT's constant power output provides for high productivity and maneuverability. The next-generation microprocessor integrates easily with other powertrain elements and simultaneously manages all the functions of the driveline as well as various vehicle drives such as those for tools, buckets, and telescopic arms.

Backhoe driveline from ZF

ZF Passau's driveline system for all-wheel-steered vehicles consists of a front and rear axle and a synchronized four-speed gearbox. The MS 2075 steered rear axle features planetary drives in the wheel head or optional internal planetary drives. Internal wet multi-disc brakes allow for a high braking torque with minimal wear. The axle can be fitted to backhoes with 75-kW (100-hp) engines and can handle static axle loads up to about 13 t (14 ton) and dynamic axle loads of about 8 t (9 ton). The planetary-steering front axles feature a steering cylinder that is integrated in the axle housing. This feature is coupled with a negative steering roll radius for improved maneuverability with large front wheels. The WG 92 S4 transmission designed for the system accepts input torque up to 350 N•m (260 lb•ft) and speeds up to 2600 rpm. The transmission has an integrated torque converter and a central, engine-dependent PTO. It is for vehicles with a mass up to 8 t (9 ton) and engines up to 65 kW (87 hp).

Nissan multi-fuel engines

Nissan Industrial Engines has received CARB certification for its 2.0-L, 54-hp (40-kW) and 2.5-L, 62-hp (45-kW) multi-fuel industrial H Series engines that can operate with gasoline, liquid propane, or dual fuels. The engines have demonstrated readings 80% below anticipated 2004 EPA and CARB regulations. Both are available in carbureted or EFI throttle-body versions. The engines use a three-way catalyst with an oxygen sensor in a closed-loop system. Nissan intends to offer multi-fuel engines ranging from 42 to 152 hp (31 to 113 kW).

Case cooler

Case has designed a cooling system for its D Series wheel loaders that uses a Case-exclusive mid-mount, cube-shaped module to supplies clean air from the top and sides of the cube to efficiently cool the engine and components. By eliminating stacked coolers, the system design prevents debris from plugging between coolers. The design also supplies cooler air because the air no longer gets repeatedly heated while passing through the series of stacked coolers.

Funk axle

The SWEDA (super-wide extreme-duty axle) 1400 series axle from Funk Manufacturing shares the same geartrain as other 1400 models, but incorporates enhanced structural and load-bearing componentry. The axle was developed primarily for forestry equipment and oilfield applications—where wider, dual tires are used to minimize ground pressures and tire-mark damage to the environment. It is suitable for skidders, feller bunchers, and rough-terrain lift trucks. The design includes face seals at the wheel end and a reduced tolerance gap between the end of the housing and flange. Twenty bolts (increased from 12) mount the axle housing to the differential case. The axle shaft has been increased from 4.5 to 5.25 in (114 to 133 mm), and the outboard bearing diameter capacity has been increased 34%.
