Engine evolution
The Perkins 400 series engines, from Perkins Shibaura Engines, are the company's EPA Tier 2/Euro stage II-compliant successors to its 100 series diesel engines. The 400 series is a range of three- and four-cylinder, water-cooled, naturally aspirated, and turbocharged indirect-injection engines offering 10 to 60 hp (7 to 45 kW). Power and torque have been increased by 8 and 10%, respectively, and the engines run clean and quiet, according to the company, with a reduction in noise level at low-idle speed of up to 5 dB(A). Applications include construction machinery, turf- or general-industrial equipment, or electric power generation.
