Diagnostic adapter

The Dearborn Group, Inc.'s Dearborn Protocol Adapter (DPA) II Plus and III Plus are for use as rugged diagnostic solutions for trucks, tractors, and cranes in the off-highway market. The products are used in applications such as research and development, design, production, end-of-line testing, field service diagnostics, and onboard system monitoring and control. The DPA II Plus supports SAE J1708, SAE J1939, and CAN. It has a voltage converter mode that supports RS-232-to-RS-485 voltage conversion, and includes a pass-through mode that supports communication with older software packages such as RP1202 and RP1210. The DPA III Plus supports all of the above, as well as SAE J1587, SAE J1922, VPWM J1850, and digital I/O.

Tactile-force sensor

Pressurex is a tactile-force indicating sensor from Sensor Products, Inc., that assesses compression magnitude and distribution between any two mating or impacting surfaces. Applications include both manufacturing process control and machine/component inspection and calibration. It also can reveal how force is disbursed in bolted assemblies and gasketed and flanged interfaces. When placed between surfaces, the sensor film instantaneously and permanently changes color. The intensity of the color is proportional to the amount of force applied, allowing engineers to quantify the stress characteristics across the surface. The film's spatial resolution enables the exposure of minute surface defects and fatigue marks.

Data logging software

Version 2.0 of Flukeview Forms software from Fluke Corp. allows readings from up to eight Fluke meters to be graphically displayed on a Windows PC for comparison and analysis. Users can set parameters of readings to be recorded during any logging session. Results are viewed as graphs and charts on predefined or customized forms. The software will automatically upload data from memory or can log data in real time while a meter is connected to a PC. Documentation is available in seven languages.

Thermocouple cards

Four new high-performance thermocouple expansion options from IOtech feature individual channel filtering and amplification for low-noise temperature readings. Channel-to-channel reading variations are minimized by an improved cold-junction compensation system using isothermal PCB layouts and thermistor sensing of ambient temperature. The 7-channel DBK81 and 14-channel DBK82 have onboard screw terminals. The DBK83 is a 14-channel card with a D-sub connector that mates with a remote screw-terminal pod, POD-1, and the DBK84 is a 14-channel module with miniature TC jacks that shares the same footprint as a DaqBook mainframe.

Oscilloscope/recorder

The DL750 ScopeCorder from Yokogawa combines recorder-like measurement capability with digital storage oscilloscope (DSO) triggering and analysis capabilities. It can measure temperature, pressure, logic, and relatively high-speed analog signals, and offers advanced waveform analysis such as zooming, automatic waveform parameter measurements, cursor measurements, and optional user-defined math functions for complex calculations. Its available 16-bit resolution offers 256 times more resolution than traditional 8-bit DSOs, says the company. Compared to previous models, the DL750 has longer memory with 2.5 M words/channel standard and smaller dimensions at 350 x 250 x 170 mm (13.8 x 9.8 x 6.7 in).
