Michelin's large tire for large trucks
The Michelin 59/80R63 XDR radial tire is more than 13 ft (4 m) tall, nearly 5 ft (1.5 m) wide, has a mass of more than 5 ton (4.5 t), and can support more than 100 ton (90 t) per tire. The tire is the result of a collaboration that began in 1996 between Michelin and Caterpillar, which was, like many other mining-industry players, making plans for bigger and bigger trucks to move larger amounts of materials faster and under extreme conditions.
