Oil-cooled brakes for Daewoo electric lift trucks


Daewoo's exclusive Oil-Cooled Disc Brake system, now an option on the company's electric lift trucks, is designed to last five times longer than hydraulic shoe brakes.
For the first time, Daewoo's exclusive oil-cooled disc brake (ODB) system is now available as an option on the company's BC25S/B25S 1800-2700 kg (4000-6000 lb) capacity four-wheel cushion- and pneumatic-tire electric lift trucks. Until now, the ODB system has been standard equipment only on the company's similar-capacity IC lift trucks.

The system ensures non-fade braking in extreme conditions, including fast, short-shuttle applications as well as ramp loading and unloading operations. The system design provides more than 3200 cm2 (500 in2 ) of braking surface, compared with about 650 cm2 (100 in2 ) found on standard automotive-type shoe brakes used by most other lift truck manufacturers.

Heat generated during braking is transferred directly to the differential oil and axle housing. This method of heat dissipation ensures even distribution of heat throughout the axle and eliminates potential problems associated with excessive heat buildup in shoe brakes and drums. Daewoo's system is designed to last five times longer than hydraulic shoe brakes and requires no adjustment, has no springs or star adjusters, and is virtually maintenance-free.

The complete ODB system is mounted in the wheel hubs, so access is fast and easy if servicing is required. It is completely sealed to protect the friction material and separator plates from water, abrasives, and corrosive contamination and to eliminate traditional shoe brake problems attributed to moisture buildup that occurs when freezer trucks enter warmer areas.
