Poclain Hydraulics builds vehicle test track
-
Poclain Hydraulics has expanded its Verberie, France, R&D facilities to include a vehicle test track, enhancing its ability to perform customer vehicle tests and transmission systems development. Already the largest single hydraulics test center in Europe, according to the company, the facilities can now test customer vehicles on location. This new capability should greatly improve response time in bringing new transmission systems to market. Combined with its applications, as well as component and systems design engineering groups, the company provides customer support and systems integration from machine design conception through complete vehicle testing services.
The new test track, built to accommodate a variety of mobile machinery equipped with Poclain Hydraulics transmissions, is 0.53 km (0.33 mile) long and can handle vehicle speeds to 64 km/h (40 mph). The track incorporates a tilt table as well as slopes of various lengths in 20%, 30%, 50%, and 100% grades, as well as various ground conditions. The track is designed to test a variety of vehicle parameters including traction control, speed and acceleration, gradeability, and service and safety braking, as well as vehicle-specific operations.
Poclain Hydraulics performs thousands of hours of vehicle testing per year. The increase in testing capability increases dramatically its ability to ensure development of well-proven, high-performance transmission systems, according to the company.
