Eaton's telescopic tilt steering column

A lever engages the tilt function of the new telescopic tilt steering column from Eaton Hydraulics.

To address comfort and ergonomics concerns, Eaton Hydraulics has introduced a telescopic tilt column for off-road vehicles.

"Manufacturers know ergonomics can help decrease fatigue and discomfort and thereby enhance productivity in the field - something that appeals to operators," said Kerri Murdoch, Product Manager of steering control units at Eaton.

The tilt function of the new unit is engaged by pulling a lever. For safety, the lever features a spring-return lock release. The lever can be mounted on either side of the column for added design flexibility. The total tilt parameter is 40o from the farthest front position to the farthest rear position. The forward and backward tilt parameters are 20o each. The tilt function offers five positions that can be selected according to the operator's needs: two back, one center, and two forward. A second spring-return lock release lever controls the telescopic function that offers an infinite number of positions. The lever can be mounted in any one of four positions on the column.

The standard jacket length of the column is 190.5 mm (7.5 in) above the pivot and 546.4 mm (21.5 in) below the pivot. Other jacket lengths are available according to customers' needs. The column can be specified with either tilt, telescopic, or both options.
