Grammer emphasizes the adjustability of its new Maximo seat. Backrest height can be adjusted for body size and working conditions in 13 steps from 475 to 645 mm (18.7 to 25.4 in.). Seat-cushion depth can be set to one of five positions from 440 to 500 mm (17.3 to 19.7 in.), while angle can be altered between 3° and 11° in four increments. The seat also has a built-in, natural air conditioner. When seated, an operator's perspiration is absorbed and accumulated in an active carbon layer below the textile's surface. In a 1-cm² (0.16-in²) area, the active carbon material has an internal surface area nearly as big as a soccer field. After the operator leaves the seat, the accumulated moisture is released to the ambient air. The tapered back allows optimum freedom of movement for various working conditions. The back itself has an active lumbar support. Pushbuttons operate two separate air chambers linked to a compressor. Wide, ergonomically contoured cushions and armrests provide good side support. Bottoming of the suspension is avoided by a "running endstop," which ensures that contact with machine controls remains unaffected. An integrated fore/aft isolator reduces horizontal vibrations and avoids harmful shocks to an operator's back.
