Craddle roll dynamometer
Power Test, Inc. has launched its new 508-mm (20-in) cradle roll chassis dynamometer, designed specifically for the off-highway market. The compact dynamometer will drop into most existing dynamometer pits and is designed for quick vehicle placement. Features include 895-kW (1200-hp) power capacity; 13,608-kg (30,000-lb) maximum vehicle mass capacity; no gearboxes, drive shafts, or differentials; balanced roll sets; computerized controls; and a remote handheld computerized touch-screen for in-cab control and display. A complete package is available with a handheld operator display device, stand-alone computer with color printer, and controller to run automated test cycles.
Object-detection system
Preco Electronics has released the PreView object-detection system designed for heavy-duty on- and off-road environments. The system's pulsed time domain radar is designed to detect both static and moving objects at the rear, side, or front of a vehicle that may be obscured from the operator's view. The design has been tested and complies with SAE J1455 environmental requirements and with the object detection zone defined in SAE J1741. The PreView system architecture allows multiple sensors to be placed on the vehicle with a single operator display to provide detection coverage for wide vehicles. Standard detection zones as well as specific configurations are available.
Vacuum attachment
Vacstar will feature its Duck Bill vacuuming attachment, suited for cleaning on-site spoils from directional drilling. The attachment allows the operator to vacuum and pothole more than 61 m (200 ft) from the unit, permitting backyard and inaccessible area work. The pressure mode of the rotary-vane pump allows clogs to be blown from the vacuum hose and drilling mud to be pressurized and discharged with gravity assist. Vacstar's line of vacuum excavation equipment is designed for locating underground utilities and cleansing manholes, catch basins, wash pits, and valve and meter boxes as well as for hydro-digging under sidewalks and washing equipment and property.
Drum-motor drives
Drive-component manufacturer Van der Graaf Inc. will highlight its explosion-proof internally powered drum-motor drives for driving belt conveyors in the mining industry. The motors feature heavy-duty bolts, a cast end cap, and a secondary o-ring seal that eliminates the possibility of spark, a common cause of pulley explosion. The 317.5-mm (12.5-in) drum motors consist of 304 or 316 stainless-steel external components (shell and shafts) that resist corrosion. The conveyor drive has a 22-kW (30-hp) motor and a standard face width of 1295 mm (51 in). Drum speeds are fixed at 183 m/min (600 ft/min) to match most mining applications and may be used in other industries that have the potential for fire or explosion such as feed and grain or fertilizer plants.
PTO clutches
WPT Power Transmission Corp. has introduced a new line of PTO clutches that offer both pneumatic and hydraulic forms of engagement and eliminate the need for continuous adjustment to the clutch mechanism. All PTO products manufactured by WPT are either pneumatically or hydraulically actuated, offering greater capacity size for the rugged use encountered on crushers, grinders, and dredge pumps. Primary industries served include construction, aggregate, and mining.
