Purifiers

AZ Purifiers and Purimufflers from Lubrizol Engine Control Systems contain an oxidation catalyst that will reduce carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons by more than 90% and will show particulate matter reductions of 20-50%. The units are compatible with common off-road diesel-fuel-sulfur levels. They have been certified under the U.S. EPA urban bus retrofit/rebuild program, the U.S. EPA Voluntary Retrofit program for two- and four-stroke diesel engines, and the Sweden Environmental Zones program. The purifiers are in three styles: heavy duty, severe duty, and direct fit, which aids installation for a variety of off-road vehicles. The units can also be used in combination with emulsified diesel fuels such as PuriNox.

Bronze on steel

Kugler Bimetal SA offers a solution for friction problems in the form of casting a TOKAT bronze onto steel. The bimetallic process involves the coating of various grades of steel with the specific friction-resistant qualities of TOKAT lead bronze via perfect intermetallic diffusion. The high mechanical resistance of the steel combines with the low friction coefficient of the TOKAT lead bronze. Hydraulic cylinder blocs for axial pumps and motors are one key application. Other applications in hydraulic equipment include piston shoes, distribution plates, and screw pump housings.

Portable air compressors

Kaeser Compressors, Inc.'s Mobilair portable air compressors are rugged, efficient units with output ranges from 1.27 to 26.9 m3/min (45 to 950 ft3/min) at 689 kPa (100 psi). Selected models offer variable pressures from 483-1379 kPa (70-200 psi). Generator and aftercooler options are also available. Standard features include the power-saving Sigma Profile airend, heavy-duty diesel engine, and an instrument and lighting package. Units are suited for construction, sand blasting, repair trucks, railroads, and off-site applications.

Work-zone safety

A training program from J. J. Keller & Associates teaches workers how to be safe in and around work zones. Based on the latest NIOSH recommendations, the program looks at the broad picture of work-zone safety, from traffic control to coordination of the site. The program covers items including work zone hazards, applicable regulations and standards, traffic control, equipment inspection and maintenance, channeling devices, flaggers, personal protective equipment, and warning signs. Accompanying handbooks provide a review of key points and add further detail on the topics. A Spanish language version is also available.

Vibration monitoring

BlastMate III from Instantel is rugged, portable, and lightweight with a fast, high-resolution printer. The unit offers 1024, 2048, and 4096 constant sampling rates regardless of the record time, as well as 500-s record times, allowing the capture of long-term events, such as trains. Histogram and Histocombo modes can be used for long-term monitoring of events with up to 4 kHz sampling rate for high compliance accuracy. The product can auto download events to a PC and offers eight-channel support with 300-event memory capacity. Compliance reports are provided for all national or local frequency standards.
