Thoughts from SAE Members
 |
I have now been an SAE member for 38 years. From my early involvement in the Detroit Section Junior Activity to standards activity as the chair of the Motor Vehicle Council to my current role as SAE President, the Society has played a great role in my career development. I encourage you to take advantage of all that membership in SAE entails - you won't regret the decision.

My involvement in SAE has broadened my automotive engineering perspective into areas outside of my everyday job. In short, it has made me a better, more versatile engineer.

Formula SAE and Mini Baja were my best collegiate experiences. I am still learning, making new friends, and benefiting in my career through continued attendance at local section meetings, my participation on SAE's boards and committees, and by judging Mini Baja events.

SAE allows me to both contribute to and benefit from the Society in just about any way imaginable. I can make a difference for children and my community through the "A World In Motion" program, build social equity through my local contacts, learn leadership and management skills as a section officer (Chairman at age 26!), broaden my knowledge of local and global industry issues, and increase my creativity as an engineer. In short, SAE provides for all of my professional needs.

SAE gave me the once-in-a-lifetime learning opportunity of organizing an international conference in Chennai, while my involvement in section affairs has helped me develop leadership skills. Also, the wonderful networking opportunities SAE provides cannot be matched by any other membership.
- Dr. R. Mahadevan, Technical Director, India Pistons Limited
- Chennai, India
SAE has been a part of my professional life since I was a freshman at Cal Poly San Louis Obispo. It has served me well through many job functions and has led to many great personal and professional friendships. To me, SAE equals opportunity.

Having been in the automotive emission components business, SAE was the only place I felt I could get the straight skinny on new technology, the gritty details of legislative issues, and the latest thinking in design.
