HPD: HPM II Design Tool SAE Part#EA-3HPD The H-Point design tool is a set of data used during design in conjunction with the H-Point machine. In an IGES file format the HPM II is positioned in 1 neutral position and the 4 pre-defined postures. The file is uploaded into the resident CAD system and the user must add constraints and parametrics. The HPD is referenced in J 826_2002 as a critical component to the design applications of the HPM II.

This engineering aid is an electronic CAD file (IGES format) which provides a 2-D projection of the Hybrid III 50th Percentile Male dummy to the mid-sagittal plane. It provides key landmarks such as joint locations and centers of gravity. It is intended as an aid in interior and restraint system packaging design. Engineering Aids Hybrid III Dummy Products This disk contains the computer file form of the Two-Dimensional Template, August 3, 1993 revision, for the Hybrid II 50th Percentile Adult Male Dummy, The file is in an I.G.E.S. format that can be imported into many CAD packages. The template shows the dummy in a seated posture. The outside contour of the upper torso, neck and head is at the midsagittal plane of the dummy. The contour of the pelvis and legs is at a plane parallel to the midsagittal plane passing through the centerline of the leg. The contour of the head was digitized from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Master Pattern. The dummy contours were obtained by digitizing a dummy.

HPM II H-Point Machine SAE Product Code: EA-3.01 The H-point is used as a key reference point in seated occupant location, seating package configurations, EPA volumes and crash test positioning. The HPM II H-point machine provides the physical representation of this reference point and is a vital element for design, auditing and benchmarking of seating and interior packages. The HPM II machine is used in conjunction with J 4002 rev. Jan. 2010, which includes many design changes and enhancements over the OSCAR H-Point machine. This new design includes; reformed shells for a consistent and reliable fit in bucket seats, articulating back for lumber support measurement, ability to measure H-point without use of leg and better design for ease of installation. Since the HPM II is not yet reference in the FMVSS or ISO standards it is primarily used in advance design applications. SAE provides comprehensive support for the HPM II machine including, calibration, spare parts and maintenance. Also available for the HPM II is a CAD compatible design tool and a custom fit storage/shipping cart.
