Established in 1983, this award recognizes unusual achievements of an individual who, through dedicated service, tireless efforts, high ideals, and vision, contributed significantly to the implementation of manufacturing processes and methodologies in the dedicated discipline of automated fastening machines and their applications. The award consists of a framed certificate and is presented each year at either the Aerospace Manufacturing and Automated Fastening Conference and Exhibition or the AeroTech Congress.

Ralph H. Isbrandt Automotive Safety Engineering Award - Participate - SAE International

Established in 1972, this award annually recognizes the author(s) of the most outstanding SAE technical paper or journal article on the subject of automotive safety engineering.  During his 45-year automotive career, Isbrandt, SAE's 1967 President, provided a constant inspiration to young engineers seeking and following a mobility engineering career. The award is funded from an endowment comprising donations from American Motors Corp., Chrysler Corp., Ford Motor Co., General Motors Corp., the 2nd International Passive Restraint Systems Conference Banquet Committee, and Isbrandt's many friends.

Cliff Garrett Turbomachinery Engineering Award - Participate - SAE International

Established in 1984, this award promotes engineering developments and the presentation of SAE papers on turbomachinery and/or developments that enable or advance the use of turbomachinery. The award honors Cliff Garrett and the inspiration he provided to engineers by his example, support, encouragement, and many contributions as an aerospace pioneer. To perpetuate recognition of Garrett's achievements and dedication as an aerospace pioneer, SAE administers an annual lecture by a distinguished authority in the engineering of turbomachinery and/or engineering related to creating, enabling, or advancing applications of turbomachinery in power systems, on-highway, off-highway, aircraft, and/or spacecraft uses. The award is made possible by a contribution from the Garrett Corp.

Ableson Award for Visionary Leadership - Participate - SAE International

This award is the highest recognition that the SAE Foundation Trustees bestow upon an individual who has exhibited exemplary leadership that benefited SAE International, the SAE Foundation, and/or SAE Foundation Canada. Recipient must have more than 20 years of service to the mobility community, representing industry, academia, or government and must have made notable contributions serving in a leadership capacity. Recipient must have served as a SAE Foundation Trustee or on the SAE Foundation Canada Board of Directors for more than three years or be a leader who has made significant contributions toward improving math, science, engineering, or technology education. Recipient must have led at least one initiative that resulted in noteworthy advancements of the SAE Foundation's mission. The SAE Foundation encourages and increases student participation and achievement in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).

Arch T. Colwell Merit Award - Participate - SAE International

This award annually recognizes the authors of papers of outstanding technical or professional merit presented at a meeting of the Society or any of its sections during the calendar year. Papers are judged primarily for their value as new contributions to existing knowledge of mobility engineering. Colwell, who funded this award, served SAE in many capacities for nearly 50 years, including a term as President in 1941. His own technical papers were outstanding examples of engineering excellence and clear writing. Established in 1965, this award annually recognizes the authors of papers of outstanding technical or professional merit presented at a meeting of the Society or any of its sections during the calendar year. Papers are judged primarily for their value as new contributions to existing knowledge of mobility engineering.

Franklin W. Kolk Air Transportation Progress Award - Participate - SAE International

Established in 1978, this award recognizes an individual or a team for unique and outstanding contributions to air transportation and/or to the work of the aerospace technical committees in developing aerospace standards, specifications, technical reports, and data through cooperative research. SAE established the Franklin W. Kolk Air Transportation Progress Award to acknowledge and commemorate the distinctive contributions of the late Franklin W. Kolk to the advancement of civil air transportation and to the associated work of the Society. Kolk was renowned for the many significant contributions he made in the design of commercial transport aircraft. He was an active participant in many government/industry committees and was the founding chairman of the SAE A-21 Committee on Aircraft Noise Measurement. The criteria for the selection shall include the following: The significance of the individual's/team's contribution in terms of the originality of the work.

Henry Ford II Distinguished Award for Excellence in Automotive Engineering - Participate - SAE International

The Ford Motor Company funded this award in 1988 in honor of Henry Ford II’s enormous impact on the mobility industry.  The award recognizes the ingenuity of SAE member individuals or teams, whose engineering skills have contributed to the design of a product or development of a manufacturing process which has had a significantly positive impact on the passenger car, truck, or bus industry. Providing supervisory or managerial engineering direction alone does not fulfil the award requirement.

Charles M. Manly Memorial Medal - Participate - SAE International

Established in 1928, this award annually recognizes the author(s) of the best paper(s) relating to theory or practice in the design or construction of, or research on, aerospace engines, their parts, components, or accessories at a meeting of the Society or its sections during the calendar year. Manly served as SAE President in 1919 and following his death, many of his associates formed a committee to establish a memorial as a lasting tribute to his work in aeronautic engineering.

Operational availability includes areas such as repair design, tooling, maintenance practices, logistics, inspection, modification and safety. The award acknowledges and commemorates the distinctive management contributions of the late Marvin Whitlock, Senior Vice President-Maintenance and a member of the Board of Directors of United Air Lines.

Environmental Excellence in Transportation (E2T) Award - Participate - SAE International

Established in 2000, this award recognizes an individual or groups of individuals who through their ingenuity and dedication make significant innovations in reducing the environmental impact caused by the transportation industry. These innovative achievements may occur in motorized vehicles for land, sea, air, and space in the areas of fuels, alternative propulsion methods, fuel usage, materials, energy usage, manufacturing methods, logistics support, as well as in education, training and improving public awareness. The key criteria for recognition are innovation, originality, demonstrated significant favorable impact on the environment and improvement over any existing technologies, methods and public acceptance. The award consists of a crystal globe and is presented at the Awards Ceremony during the WCX World Congress Experience.

William Littlewood Memorial Lecture - Participate - SAE International

Established in 1971, this award provides for an annual lecture dealing with a broad phase of civil air transportation considered of current interest and major importance. The objective is to advance air transport engineering and to recognize those who make personal contributions to the field. The award perpetuates the memory of William Littlewood, the only person ever to be president of both SAE (1954) and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. He was renowned for his contributions to the design of, and operational requirements for, civil transport aircraft.

Barry D. McNutt Award for Excellence in Automotive Policy Analysis - Participate - SAE International

Established in 2004, this award recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the development of improved federal automotive policy. Government policy is an increasingly important and complex influence on the ability of the mobility community to serve humanity. Through this award, SAE recognizes the importance of sound policy analysis and inspires members of the mobility community in government, industry and elsewhere to strive for excellence. This award recognizes Barry D. McNutt for his contributions to rational and effective public policy and to encourage others to strive to advance the ability of government and industry to serve the public good. His contributions reflected his conviction that effective public policy must be firmly grounded not only in the reality of the problems to be solved but also in the economic and technical reality of the affected industry.

SAE Aerospace Engineering Leadership Award - Participate - SAE International

Established in 1992, this award honors an individual at the corporate official level for outstanding contributions to the field of aerospace engineering through his/her leadership skills. It recognizes an individual who has applied their leadership skills in aerospace engineering to make contributions leading to great positive impact on the aerospace community. Recognition may be for a singular accomplishment or lifetime achievement. The award consists of an original design of aluminum and marble presented each year at a major SAE aerospace meeting.
