The transportation sector contributes to global emissions of greenhouse gases (GHG, 14%) and criteria air pollutants (CAP); a major priority for the industry is to minimize this impact. State-of-the-art engine and vehicle technology can drastically reduce CAP emissions. When combined with GHG neutral fuels, transport emissions can be significantly reduced for both legacy and future ICE vehicle fleets. This study focuses on achieving ultra-low tailpipe emissions from a conventional gasoline ICE vehicle by implementation of advanced emissions reduction technologies. Furthermore, it proves the robustness of the implemented technology packages to different market fuels and demonstrates the potential of future GHG neutral powertrains enabled by drop-in carbon neutral fuels.
