Simulative Assessments of Cyclic Queuing and Forwarding with Preemption in In-Vehicle Time-Sensitive Networking

The current automotive industry has a growing demand for real-time transmission to support reliable communication and for key technologies. The Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) working group introduced standards for reliable communication in time-critical systems, including shaping mechanisms for bounded transmission latency. Among these shaping mechanisms, Cyclic Queuing and Forwarding (CQF) and frame preemption provide deterministic guarantees for frame transmission. However, despite some current studies on the performance analysis of CQF and frame preemption, they also need to consider the potential effects of their combined usage on frame transmission. Furthermore, there is a need for more research that addresses the impact of parameter configuration on frame transmission under different situations and shaping mechanisms, especially in the case of mechanism combination.

Analysis and Design of Suspension State Observer for Wheel Load Estimation

Tire forces and moments play an important role in vehicle dynamics and safety. X-by-wire chassis components including active suspension, electronic powered steering, by-wire braking, etc can take the tire forces as inputs to improve vehicle’s dynamic performance. In order to measure the accurate dynamic wheel load, most of the researches focused on the kinematic parameters such as body longitudinal and lateral acceleration, load transfer and etc. In this paper, the authors focus on the suspension system, avoiding the dependence on accurate mass and aerodynamics model of the whole vehicle. The geometry of the suspension is equated by the spatial parallel mechanism model (RSSR model), which improves the calculation speed while ensuring the accuracy. A suspension force observer is created, which contains parameters including spring damper compression length, push rod force, knuckle accelerations, etc., combing the kinematic and dynamic characteristic of the vehicle.

Performance Analysis of Fuel Cells for High Altitude Long Flight Multi-rotor Drones

In recent years, the burgeoning applications of hydrogen fuel cells have ignited a growing trend in their integration within the transportation sector, with a particular focus on their potential use in multi-rotor drones. The heightened mass-based energy density of fuel cells positions them as promising alternatives to current lithium battery-powered drones, especially as the demand for extended flight durations increases. This article undertakes a comprehensive exploration, comparing the performance of lithium batteries against air-cooled fuel cells, specifically within the context of multi-rotor drones with a 3.5kW power requirement. The study reveals that, for the specified power demand, air-cooled fuel cells outperform lithium batteries, establishing them as a more efficient solution.

Rapid assessment of power battery states for electric vehicles oriented to after-sales maintenance

With the continuous popularization of electric vehicles (EVs), ensuring the best performance of EVs has become a significant concern, and lithium-ion power batteries are considered as the essential storage and conversion equipment for EVs. Therefore, it is of great significance to quickly evaluate the state of power batteries. This paper investigates a fast state estimation method of power batteries oriented to after-sales and maintenance. Based on the battery equivalent circuit model and heuristics optimization algorithm, the battery model parameters, including the internal ohmic and polarization resistance, can be identified using only 30 minutes of charging or discharging process data without full charge or discharge. At the same time, the proposed method can directly estimate the state of charge (SOC) and maximum available capacity of the battery without knowing initial SOC information.

Revealing the Impact of Mechanical Pressure on Lithium-Ion Pouch Cell Formation and the Evolution of Pressure During the Formation Process

The formation is a crucial step in the production process of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), during which the solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) is formed on the surface of the anode particles to passivate the electrode. It determines the performance of the battery, including its capacity and lifetime. A meticulously designed formation protocol is essential to regulate and optimize the stability of the SEI, ultimately achieving the optimal performance of the battery. Current research on formation protocols in lithium-ion batteries primarily focuses on temperature, current, and voltage windows. However, there has been limited investigation into the influence of different initial pressures on the formation process, and the evolution of cell pressure during formation remains unclear. In this study, a pressure-assisted formation device for lithium-ion pouch cells is developed, equipped with pressure sensors.

A Terminal-Velocity Heuristic Method for Speed Optimization of EVs in Multi-Intersection Scenarios

The optimization of speed holds critical significance for pure electric vehicles. In multi-intersection scenarios, the determination of terminal velocity plays a crucial role in addressing the complexities of the speed optimization problem. However, prevailing methodologies documented in the literature predominantly adhere to a fixed speed constraint derived from traffic light regulations, serving as the primary basis for the terminal velocity constraint. Nevertheless, this strategy can result in unnecessary acceleration and deceleration maneuvers, consequently leading to an undesirable escalation in energy consumption. To mitigate these issues and attain an optimal terminal velocity, this paper proposes an innovative speed optimization method that incorporates a terminal-velocity heuristic. Firstly, a traffic light state model is established to determine the speed range required to avoid coming to a stop at signalized intersections.

Multicast Transmission in DDS Based on the Client-Server Discovery Model

The functions of modern intelligent connected vehicles are becoming increasingly complex and diverse, and software plays an important role in these advanced features. In order to decouple the software and the hardware and improve the portability and reusability of code, Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) has been introduced into the automotive industry. Data Distribution Service (DDS) is a widely used communication middleware which provides APIs for service-oriented Remote Procedure Call (RPC) and Service-Oriented Communications (SOC). By using DDS, application developers can flexibly define the data format according to their needs and transfer them more conveniently by publishing and subscribing to the corresponding topic. However, current open source DDS protocols all use unicast communication during the transmission of user data. When there are multiple data readers subscribing to the same topic, the data writer needs to send a unicast message to each data reader individually.

Coordinated Longitudinal and Lateral Motions Control of Automated Vehicles Based on Multi-Agent Deep Reinforcement Learning for On-Ramp Merging

The on-ramp merging driving scenario is challenging for achieving the highest-level autonomous driving. Current research using reinforcement learning methods to address the on-ramp merging problem of automated vehicles (AVs) is mainly designed for a single AV, treating other vehicles as part of the environment. This paper proposes a control framework for cooperative on-ramp merging of multiple AVs based on multi-agent deep reinforcement learning (MADRL). This framework facilitates AVs on the ramp and adjacent mainline to learn a coordinate control policy for their longitudinal and lateral motions based on the environment observations. Unlike the hierarchical architecture, this paper integrates decision and control into a unified optimal control problem to solve an on-ramp merging strategy through MADRL.

Combining Dynamic Movement Primitives and Artificial Potential Fields for Lane Change Obstacle Avoidance Trajectory Planning of Autonomous Vehicles

Lane change obstacle avoidance is a common driving scenario for autonomous vehicles. However, existing methods for lane change obstacle avoidance in vehicles decouple path and velocity planning, neglecting the coupling relationship between the path and velocity. Additionally, these methods often do not sufficiently consider the lane change behaviors characteristic of human drivers. In response to these challenges, this paper innovatively applies the Dynamic Movement Primitives (DMPs) algorithm to vehicle trajectory planning and proposes a real-time trajectory planning method that integrates DMPs and Artificial Potential Fields (APFs) algorithm (DMP-Fs) for lane change obstacle avoidance, enabling rapid coordinated planning of both path and velocity. The DMPs algorithm is based on the lane change trajectories of human drivers. Therefore, this paper first collected lane change trajectory samples from on-road vehicle experiments.

A Method of Generating a Composite Dataset for Monitoring of Non-Driving Related Tasks

Recently, several datasets have become available for occupant monitoring algorithm development, including real and synthetic datasets. However, real data acquisition is expensive and labeling is complex, while virtual data may not accurately reflect actual human physiology. To address these issues and obtain high-fidelity data for training intelligent driving monitoring systems, we have constructed a hybrid dataset that combines real driving image data with corresponding virtual data generated from 3D driving scenarios. We have also taken into account individual anthropometric measures and driving postures. Our approach not only greatly enriches the dataset by using virtual data to augment the sample size, but it also saves the need for extensive annotation efforts. Besides, we can enhance the authenticity of the virtual data by applying ergonomics techniques based on RAMSIS, which is crucial in dataset construction.

With the extension of intelligent vehicles from individual intelligence to group intelligence, intelligent vehicle platoons on intercity highways are important for saving transportation costs, improving transportation efficiency and road utilization, ensuring traffic safety, and utilizing local traffic intelligence [1]. However, there are several problems associated with vehicle platoons including complicated vehicle driving conditions in or between platoon columns, a high degree of mutual influence, dynamic optimization of the platoon, and difficulty in the cooperative control of lane change. Aiming at the dual-column intelligent vehicle platoon control (where “dual-column” refers to the vehicle platoon driving mode formed by multiple vehicles traveling in parallel on two adjacent lanes), a multi-agent model as well as a cooperative control method for lane change based on null space behavior (NSB) for unmanned platoon vehicles are established in this paper.

Electro-Hydraulic Composite Braking Control Optimization for Front-Wheel-Driven Electric Vehicles Equipped with Integrated Electro-Hydraulic Braking System

With the development of brake-by-wire technology, electro-hydraulic composite braking technology came into being. This technology distributes the total braking force demand into motor regenerative braking force and hydraulic braking force, and can achieve a high energy recovery rate. The existing composite braking control belongs to single-channel control, i.e., the four wheel braking pressures are always the same, so the hydraulic braking force distribution relationship of the front and rear wheels does not change. For single-axle-driven electric vehicles, the additional regenerative braking force on the driven wheels will destroy the original braking force distribution relationship, resulting in reduced braking efficiency of the driven wheels, which are much easier to lock under poor road adhesion conditions.

Study on the Effect of Gravity on the Performance of CPVA

Most centrifugal pendulum vibration absorber (CPVA) research focuses on the horizontal or vertical plane, ignoring the influence of gravity. However, with the wide application of CPVAs in the automobile industry, some gravity-related problems have been encountered in practice. In this study, employing the second kind of Lagrange equation, the differential equation of motion of a CPVA is established, and the first-order approximate analytical solution is solved using the method of multiple scales. The mathematical relations among the excitation torque amplitude and phase, gravity influence, absorber trajectory shape, absorber position, viscous damping coefficient, and mistuning level parameters are provided for study. Specifically, the second-order responses of four absorbers and two absorbers in a gravity field are studied, and the influence of the change in the torque excitation phase on the response of the absorber is thoroughly analyzed.

Simplified Modeling of an Innovative Heating Circuit for Battery Pack Based on Traction Motor Drive System

Alternating current (AC) heating is an efficient and homogeneous manner to warm Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) up. The integrated design of AC heating combined with the motor drive circuit has been studied by many scholars. However, the problems of excessive heating frequency (>1kHz) and zeros torque output of the motor during the heating process have not been solved. High-frequency AC excitation may be detrimental to the battery because the effect of high-frequency AC excitation on the state of health of the battery is unknown. In addition, although the zero-torque output can be realized by controlling the q-axis current to zero, the torque ripple is still difficult to eliminate in a real-world application. To further solve the above problems, the motor’s neutral conductor is pulled out and connected to a large capacitor to increase the current amplitude of the AC heating at low frequencies.

Noise Reduction Method of Induction Motor Based on Periodic Signal-Based Modulation Considering Frequency Band Characteristics of Electromagnetic Force

This paper aims at the problem that the sideband vibration noise of induction motor caused by inverter pulse width modulation (PWM). The frequency distribution characteristics of the induction motor with 36 stator slots and 32 rotor slots (36/32 IM) are analyzed. Based on that, a frequency width selection method for the periodic signal-based modulation considering the characteristics of sideband electromagnetic force. Results show that this method can effectively reduce the peak value of the sound power level (SWL) of sideband noise of IM at different speeds. This method is also applicable to IMs with different pole-slot match.

The intersection is recognized as the most dangerous area because of the restricted road structures and indeterminate traffic regulations. Therefore, according to the Vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), and Digital Twin data, we present a potential energy field method to establish the general characteristics of intersection traffic safety, evaluate the safety situation of intersection and assist intersection traffic participants in passing through the intersection safer and more efficient. The resulting potential energy field method is established by the contour line of traffic participants' potential energy, which is constructed as a superposition of disparate energies, such as boundary potential energy, body potential energy, and velocity potential energy. The intersection traffic safety is evaluated by the potential energy field characteristic of simultaneous intersection traffic participants.

A Novel Test Platform for Automated Vehicles Considering the Interactive Behavior of Multi-Intelligence Vehicles

With the popularity of automated vehicles, the future mixed traffic flow contains automated vehicles with different degrees of intelligence developed by other manufacturers. Therefore, simulating the interaction behavior of automated vehicles with varying levels of intelligence is crucial for testing and evaluating autonomous driving systems. Since the algorithm of traffic vehicles with various intelligence levels is difficult to obtain, it leads to hardships in quantitatively characterizing their interaction behaviors. Therefore, this paper designs a new automated vehicle test platform to solve the problem. The intelligent vehicle testbed with multiple personalized in-vehicle control units in the loop consists of three parts: 1. To overcome the shortcoming that vehicles with multiple steering modes need to switch steering modes at parking or very low speeds, a dynamic switch method of steering modes based on MOEA/D (Multi-objective Evolutionary Algorithm Based on Decomposition) was proposed for 4WID-4WIS (Four Wheel Independent Drive-Four Wheel Independent Steering) electric vehicle, considering the smoothness of dynamic switch, the lateral stability of the vehicle and the energy economy of tires. First of all, the vehicle model of 4WID-4WIS was established, and steering modes were introduced and analyzed. Secondly, the conditions for the dynamic switch of steering modes were designed with the goal of stability and safety. According to different constraints, the control strategy was formulated to obtain the target angle of the active wheels. Then aiming at the smoothness of the dynamic switch, the active wheel angle trajectory was constructed based on the B-spline theory.

A Method for Building Vehicle Trajectory Data Sets Based on Drone Videos

The research and development of data-driven highly automated driving system components such as trajectory prediction, motion planning, driving test scenario generation, and safety validation all require large amounts of naturalistic vehicle trajectory data. Therefore, a variety of data collection methods have emerged to meet the growing demand. Among these, camera-equipped drones are gaining more and more attention because of their obvious advantages. Specifically, compared to others, drones have a wider field of bird's eye view, which is less likely to be blocked, and they could collect more complete and natural vehicle trajectory data. Besides, they are not easily observed by traffic participants and ensure that the human driver behavior data collected is realistic and natural. In this paper, we present a complete vehicle trajectory data extraction framework based on aerial videos. It consists of three parts: 1) objects detection, 2) data association, and 3) data cleaning.

Research on Performance Testing and Evaluation System of Vehicle Time Sensitive Network

In recent years, intelligent connected vehicle has become an important direction for future automotive research and development. In-vehicle Time-Sensitive Network is the core communication technology of ICV, and network performance test is a necessary step in the development process. Therefore, this paper studies the Time-Sensitive Network performance test system. Firstly, a Time-Sensitive Network performance test framework is designed, and a test scheme is formulated. Then, a control method that can flexibly configure the network topology is proposed. Finally, the physical verification of the system is carried out, and the influence of factors such as network topology, message frame length and communication frequency on the network communication performance is analyzed, which proves the reliability of the system.
