According to NHTSA, there were 932 vehicle recalls in the United States in 2022, affecting approximately 31 million vehicles; 39 electric vehicle recalls affecting more than 1.3 million vehicles, and 56 ADAS recalls affecting more than 4.7 million vehicles. Furthermore, Warranty Week reports that Worldwide Auto Manufacturers allocated a total of $54.7 billion for future warranty repairs or $670 per vehicle sold in 2022. 2023 Consumer Report indicates that Electrical Vehicles have 79% more reliability issues than ICE vehicles.

A Primer on Regulations and Liability Considerations for HAV’s

Potential regulations surrounding the development, testing and commercial launch of Highly Automated Vehicles and possible liability exposure for the manufacturing and operation of Highly Automated Vehicles are fluid and changing areas, that will continue to evolve over the next several years. The first half of this course reviews where regulations are at the state and federal levels, what actions are currently under consideration, how current regulations will need to change to accommodate HAV’s, and how and when new regulations might be implemented. The second half covers both common law and strict liability and how it may apply to HAV’s.

Vehicle Crash Reconstruction Principles and Technology

Crash reconstruction is a scientific process that utilizes principles of physics and empirical data to analyze the physical, electronic, video, audio, and testimonial evidence from a crash to determine how and why the crash occurred. This course will introduce this reconstruction process as it gets applied to various crash types - in-line and intersection collisions, pedestrian collisions, motorcycle crashes, rollover crashes, and heavy truck crashes. The class offers an explanation of geometric symbols, including each symbol’s requirements, tolerance zones, and limitations. It compares GD&T to coordinate tolerancing, Rules #1 and #2; form and orientation controls; tolerance of position; runout and profile controls. The Tire as a Vehicle Component

The principal functions of the pneumatic tire are to generate driving, braking, and cornering forces while safely carrying the vehicle load and providing adequate levels of ride comfort. This course explains how tire forces and moments are generated under different operating and service conditions and, in turn, demonstrates how these forces and moments influence various vehicle responses such as braking, handling, ride, and high-speed performance. The content focuses on the fundamentals of tire behavior in automobiles, trucks, and farm tractors, but also includes experimental and empirical results, when necessary.

Applied Brake Controls Test Track Experience ABS, TCS, and ESC

  Take notes.  Take a spin.  Repeat.  Six classroom modules (2 each for ABS, TCS and ESC!) are paired with six driving modules on a real-world ice and snow development test track in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.  There's no better way to reinforce classroom learning than by grabbing the steering wheel.  All of the driving exercises have been specifically developed so that anyone can hop in the car and immediately link what you have just learned in the classroom.
