This course content provides the Civil Aviation Safety Engineers (Systems - Electrical) with the knowledge and skills to conduct oversight of aviation safety, aircraft certification and Continued Operational Safety. These areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to, Type Certification, Amended Type Certification, Supplemental Type Certification, Parts Manufacturing Approval (PMA), Technical Standard Order (TSO) Continued Operational Safety, Flight manuals, and Operational Approvals.

This four-hour short course will provide an overview of the airworthiness certification process and the role of the FAA Designated Engineering Representative (DER) and Authorized Representative (AR) with insight into the type design, minor/ major Changes, FAA conformity process, and test witnessing. It also provides familiarity with FAA forms.

RTCA DO-178C  is the globally-accepted standard for civil aviation software development and certification. Compliance with the objectives of DO-178C is the primary means for meeting airworthiness requirements and obtaining approval of airborne software in TC/STC/TSO, etc. Even after study of the DO-178C, many people lack experience producing DO-178C compliant airborne software in real applications.

This course covers metal forming and related manufacturing processes, emphasizing practical applications. In the age of lightweighting, fatigue strength is an important vehicle design requirement as engineers struggle to meet stringent weight constraints without adversely impacting durability. This technical concept course introduces the fatigue failure mode and analysis methods. It explains the physics of material fatigue, including damage accumulation that may progress to product failure over time, and it provides the needed foundation to develop effective fatigue prediction capabilities.
