Minimum Operational Performance Specification for Ground Ice Detection Systems

2002-02-11
HISTORICAL
AS5116A
This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS)/Minimum Operational Performance Specification (MOPS) specifies the minimum performance requirements of Ground Ice Detection Systems (GIDS). These systems may be mounted onboard the airplane, or be ground-based. They may provide information for indication and/or control. Chapter 1 provides information required to understand the need for the GIDS characteristics and tests defined in the remaining chapters. It describes typical GIDS applications and operational objectives and is the basis for the performance criteria stated in Chapter 2 through Chapter 4. Definitions essential to the proper understanding of this document are provided in Chapter 1. Chapter 2 contains general design requirements for an ice detection system used during ground operations. Chapter 3 contains the Minimum Operational Performance Requirements for the GIDS, defining performance under icing conditions likely to be encountered during ground operations.

PERFORMANCE STANDARD FOR AIRPLANE GROUND ICE DETECTION SYSTEM, AIRPLANE/GROUND BASED

1996-11-01
HISTORICAL
AS5116
This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) establishes minimum performance standards for Airplane Ground Ice Detection (AGID) Systems. This standard also defines functional capabilities, design requirements and test procedures. An AGID system detects frost, ice, slush, or snow on the upper surface of the wings, control surfaces, and/or other critical surfaces of airplanes. The AGID system can include ground-based and/or airplane mounted devices. The AGID system will provide an indication within its area of coverage whenever frost, ice, slush or snow will affect safety of flight.

Endurance Time Test Procedures for SAE Type I Aircraft Deicing/Anti-Icing Fluids

2017-10-10
CURRENT
ARP5945A
The purpose of this Aerospace Recommended Practice (ARP) is to provide the sample selection criteria and endurance time test procedures for SAE Type I aircraft deicing/anti-icing fluids, required for the generation of endurance time data of acceptable quality for review by the SAE G-12 Holdover Time Committee. A significant body of previous research and testing has indicated that all Type I fluids formulated with conventional glycols, as defined in 3.1.1 of AMS1424, perform in a similar manner from an endurance time perspective. This applies to Type I deicing/anti-icing fluids formulated with propylene glycol, ethylene glycol, and diethylene glycol only. As a result, Type I deicing/anti-icing fluids containing these glycol bases no longer require testing for endurance times.

Type I deicing/anti-icing fluids containing these glycol bases no longer require testing for endurance times. The methods described in this ARP shall be employed, however, if endurance time testing of a glycol-based Type I deicing/anti-icing fluid is desired or requested by a fluid manufacturer, operator or other organization.
