This SAE Information Report describes results of testing of the SAE J1746 ISP-Vehicle Standard for the communication of spatial data references between central sites and mobile vehicles on roads. Testing was performed by the Oak Ridge National Laboratory and its contractors, resulting in a document from which this Information Report has been extracted. Tests were performed by computer analysis and corroborated by field tests with a mobile vehicle.

Providing a standard definition of the package interfaces and their behavior is intended to facilitate the exchange of models between component and system manufacturers and the use of different CAE simulation tools. The SAE statistical package supports the statistical modeling of design parameters subject to tolerances for designs described using the VHDL or VHDL-AMS languages.

It is hoped that it will constitute a concise reference of the important characteristics of selected cast and wrought ferrous materials available for this application, as well as methods employed for manufacturing. The different types of manifolds used in current engine designs are discussed, along with their range of applicability. Finally, a general description of mechanical, chemical, and thermophysical properties of commonly-used alloys is provided, along with discussions on the importance of such properties.

This SAE Standard outlines the US standard for sending Advanced Traveler Information Services (ATIS) messages over various Bandwidth Reduced Media (BRM). It specifies the “over the air” format and method for such data messages at a bit level. The methodology allows a cooperative sharing of the media’s total bandwidth with other non-ATIS data services. It allows for further expansion to other ATIS messages such as transit schedules and weather use. It uses a common directory of messages to divide out those messages which are the subject of this specification from others. It is built upon the concept of “waveform neutrality” in that it can be hosted by a wide variety of media often found in the delivery of wireless data services (although it is also useful for wire line applications). This message set is incorporated into each medium (“host medium”) by a formatting process specific to each media. A graphical overview ofthis process is shown in Figure 1.

This document’s purpose is to communicate conventions for using those symbols and colors to accurately and consistently communicate intended information via graphics-based documentation. These practices are intended for use in service procedures, assembly instructions, training materials, and similar applications when trying to minimize the amount of human natural language text used within the document. The still and animated graphical conventions referenced should support effective communication via paper and “traditional” electronic media. The conventions can also extend to documenting via additional electronic delivery paradigms such as Augmented Reality (AR).

The document reviews best practices for collecting and measuring samples from both raw and diluted exhaust gas streams across several sample probe insertion locations relative to installed aftertreatment devices. Appropriate dilution techniques, sample transfer processes, and temperature management techniques are included. Finally, performance and validation checks are covered to ensure that long-term degradation and instrument failures can be identified quickly. The particle size range targeted in this document is >23 nm, which aligns with the present EU SPN regulations and targets only solid particles. Current commonly available measurement devices are designed for counting efficiencies of 50% at 23 nm and 90% counting efficiencies at 40 nm so the contents of this document primarily address these particle sizes.

This SAE Recommended Practice describes the implementation of Enhanced Diagnostic Test Modes, which are intended to supplement the legislated Diagnostic Test Modes defined in SAE J1979. Modes are defined for access to emission related test data beyond what is included in SAE J1979, and for non-emission related data. This document describes the data byte values for diagnostic messages transmitted between diagnostic test equipment, either on-vehicle or off-vehicle, and vehicle electronic control modules. No distinction is made between test modes for emission related and non-emission related diagnostics. These messages can be used with a diagnostic serial data link such as described in SAE J1850 or ISO 9141-2. For each test mode, this document includes a functional description of the test mode, request and report message data byte content, and an example if useful for clarification.
