J3078/4
J3078/4 specifies a uniform test method for measuring the contribution to operator environmental temperature provided by a heating, ventilating and air conditioning system operating in a specific ambient environment. The method might not determine the complete climatic environment of the operator since this is also affected by heat load from sources other than those on the machine, for example solar heating. J3708/6 is to be used in conjunction with J3078/4 to determine more accurately the complete heat loading on the operator enclosure. Minimum performance levels for the machine’s operator enclosure heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems are established in J3708/4.

J3078/5
J3078/5 specifies a test method to determine the performance of windscreen defrosting systems of earth-moving machinery, fitted with an operator enclosure and a device for defrosting the windscreen. It includes tests that can be conducted with test equipment in commercially available laboratory facilities, as well as in an appropriate outdoor environment.

This recommended practice provides technicians with safe and efficient techniques and general equipment recommendations for servicing Mobile Air Conditioning (MAC) systems in heavy duty and off-highway work machines. Presently, R-134a is the only approved refrigerant for use in mobile heavy duty and off-highway equipment and therefore this document primarily covers the servicing of R-134a systems. Since the technician may encounter other refrigerants a brief explanation on the identification safe handling of each refrigerant will be introduced.

The purpose of this document is to establish air conditioning design guidelines that will apply to most systems rather than the specific design of any particular system. Operating conditions and characteristics of the equipment will determine the design of any successful system, and since these characteristics and conditions vary greatly from one application to another, the designer must determine the goals expected to be reached under the conditions encountered. To determine the capacity of such items as blowers, condenser fans, condenser coils, evaporator coils, filters, compressors, etc., will require the adherence to several guidelines, some of which are outlined in the following paragraphs.

The purpose of this Information Report is to establish minimum performance levels in the operator's environment for heated, ventilated, and air- conditioned construction and industrial equipment cabs. Also established are heating and air-conditioning test procedures for determining operator environment temperature, humidity, and pressurization. Note: The subject of noise is not treated in this information Report. This Information Report establishes the minimum performance levels in the operator's environment: Minimum cab pressurization and ventilation levels under all conditions of heating, air conditioning, and ventilation. Maximum humidity and minimum temperature differential under air conditioning operation. minimum temperature differential under heater operation. The report also establishes uniform test procedures for determining minimum performance levels, as defined under 2.1.1- 2.1.3, under Heater and Air conditioner operation.

The purpose of this document is to establish guidelines for determining the critical refrigerant charge for off-road, self-propelled work machines, general purpose industrial, agricultural, forestry, and specialized mining machinery. It will develop a minimum to maximum refrigerant charge range in which the HVAC system can maintain proper operation. Operating conditions and characteristics of the equipment will influence the optimum charge. Since these conditions and characteristics vary greatly from one application to another, careful consideration should be taken to determine the optimum refrigerant charge for the HVAC system.
