Charles M. Manly Memorial Medal - Participate - SAE International

Established in 1928, this award annually recognizes the author(s) of the best paper(s) relating to theory or practice in the design or construction of, or research on, aerospace engines, their parts, components, or accessories at a meeting of the Society or its sections during the calendar year. Manly served as SAE President in 1919 and following his death, many of his associates formed a committee to establish a memorial as a lasting tribute to his work in aeronautic engineering.

Clarence L. (Kelly) Johnson Aerospace Vehicle Design and Development Award - Participate - SAE International

Established in 1992, this award recognizes individuals or a team who have distinguished themselves by making significant contributions during their career in the innovative design and development of advanced aircraft and/or spacecraft. The SAE Board of Directors established the Clarence L. (Kelly) Johnson Aerospace Vehicle Design and Development Award to honor the memory of Clarence L. (Kelly) Johnson and the enormous impact he had on the aerospace industry. The SAE Aerospace Council administers this annual award to perpetuate recognition of Mr. Johnson's accomplishments and inspiration as the aeronautical genius who created Lockheed's famed Skunk Works and who played a leading role in the design and development of more than 40 of the world's most advanced aircraft. This award is made possible through a fund established by the Lockheed Advanced Development Company.

Cliff Garrett Turbomachinery Engineering Award - Participate - SAE International

Established in 1984, this award promotes engineering developments and the presentation of SAE papers on turbomachinery and/or developments that enable or advance the use of turbomachinery. The award honors Cliff Garrett and the inspiration he provided to engineers by his example, support, encouragement, and many contributions as an aerospace pioneer. To perpetuate recognition of Garrett's achievements and dedication as an aerospace pioneer, SAE administers an annual lecture by a distinguished authority in the engineering of turbomachinery and/or engineering related to creating, enabling, or advancing applications of turbomachinery in power systems, on-highway, off-highway, aircraft, and/or spacecraft uses. The award is made possible by a contribution from the Garrett Corp.

Harry L. Horning Memorial Award - Participate - SAE International

Established in 1938, this award annually recognizes the author(s) of the best paper on the subject of the better mutual adaptation of fuels and internal combustion engines.  The award preserves the memory of the dedication of SAE's 1925 President, Harry L. Horning, to the pursuit of improved mutual adaptability of engines and fuels and serves as a motivation for others to follow in his footsteps.

Max Bentele Award for Engine Technology Innovation

Established in 2001, this award annually recognizes an SAE member whose work has furthered innovation in the manufacture, design and improvement of engine technology for ground, air or space vehicles. The award honors Max Bentele for his contributions to the field of mobility engines and his encouragement for others to innovate and promote advances in the area. The award is designated for engineers who have at most been out of school for ten years, who have made a major contribution through a new idea, concept, innovation or application which provides a recognized improvement in engine technology and which has been verified through proof of concept demonstrations. It is intended to recognize the global nature of the SAE and the breadth of the mobility community that it serves. The award is made possible by a contribution from the Max Bentele Foundation.

SAE International Timken-Howard Simpson Automotive Transmission and Driveline Innovation Award - Participate - SAE International

Purpose: This award recognizes an individual or a team from the automotive industry for outstanding contributions to automotive transmission and driveline technology. Funded through a gift from the Timken Company in 2007, this award honors Howard Simpson, who invented a revolutionary planetary gear set which constituted the basis for the Ford C4 and C5 transmission produced or the famous Chrysler Torqueflite transmission and several General Motors transmission models. Criteria: The award acknowledges new ideas, concepts, innovations, or applications that will assist in improving this technology. Nominees should have demonstrated significant achievements in improving automotive transmission and driveline technology. Eligibility: Members of the Selection Committee are not eligible for this award while serving on the committee. Two years must pass before former members of the Selection Committee are eligible to receive the award.

SAE John Johnson Awards for Outstanding Research in Diesel Engines - Participate - SAE International

Purpose: Established in 2008, this award recognizes outstanding accomplishments and leadership in the area of diesel engines. Two awards are given each year, one for Best Paper and the other, the Diesel Engine Research Medal, given to an individual for outstanding leadership in research and development in the field of diesel engines through a singular accomplishment or lifetime achievement. The Best Paper award recognizes the authors of an original and outstanding technical paper presented at an SAE meeting about diesel engines in the on- or off-road industries. The Medal recognizes an outstanding leader whose professional career has focused on advancing the field of diesel engines.  This award is funded through generous contributions from Dr. John H. SAE Sid Olsen Engineering Executive of the Year Award - Participate - SAE International

Established, in 1995, this award recognizes an outstanding engineering executive in the off-highway industry. Candidates are nominated by their employees, colleagues, supervisors or the local SAE Section, with the nomination supported by another individual from the same group. The nomination and the supporting document should clearly state information to judge the individual's capabilities against the qualifications listed below. The nominee will be judged primarily on the basis of the following qualifications: Field proven products and/or services Successful protégés Outstanding teams developed Unquestioned integrity Charismatic leadership Creation of a supportive environment allowing a customer/product focus. This award honors Sid A. Olsen, his contributions to the off-highway industry, and the outstanding engineering management values he personified. Olsen, an SAE Fellow, was Manager of Engine Engineering at John Deere Product Engineering Center.
