Baja SAE Wisconsin 2012
WARRENDALE, Pa., June 13, 2012 -
2012 Baja Season comes to an end with a back-to-back win for the Universite Laval in Wisconsin.
The 2012 Baja SAE season officially ended as teams traveled to Burlington, Wisconsin. Baja SAE Wisconsin 2012 was hosted by the University of Wisconsin- Madison and held at the MGA Research Facility located in Burlington, Wisconsin. 98 Teams made the trip for the four day event from June 7-10, 2012.
Thursday morning began with teams making their way to the MGA Facility and being assigned their paddock spaces along with registration of 95 teams on the first day. By the end of the day MGA was busy with team activities. After registering the teams began visiting the Briggs & Stratton garage for their overall general evaluation and a governor (RPM) setting check.
Friday continued with Briggs & Stratton and with technical inspections of all Baja vehicles by the National Honda Technical Inspectors. On Friday technical inspection passed around 80 cars. Representatives from Polaris were onsite to conduct their design evaluation of the cars. The Polaris Design finalists were announced Friday night:

Saturday kicked off dynamic day with four impressive courses and a Baja SAE Wisconsin signature event the Mud Bog. Teams competed in the, PTC Acceleration, Magna Maneuverability Course through the hay bales, the Suspension Course that boosted a log crossing affectionately named “big bertha” and a sled pull. They also ran their Baja vehicles through the custom built Mud Bog Event.
On Sunday teams prepared for the four hour Endurance Race. The 2 mile course was laid out through the previous day’s dynamic courses including parts of suspension and maneuverability going through the MGA facility. The cars gridded by 8am and by 9am they were off for the four hour endurance race. Although 97 cars entered the endurance race it proved a challenge for some racking up assists and roll overs knocking them out of the race, while others were remained dominant and finished the four hours. In the end the top three Honda Endurance Winners were:
1st Place #18 Oregon State University
2nd Place #10 Cornell University
3rd Place #1 Universite Laval
Following the Honda Endurance Race teams headed back to the main tent to have an Awards Banquet sponsored by Honda where teams cleaned up and prepared to hear the results of their hard work throughout the week. Overall Winners of the 2012 Baja SAE Wisconsin Competition are:
