Bruel & Kjaer Free Seminars for Formula SAE Teams!

WARRENDALE, Pa., Aug. 20, 2012 - In response to comments and feedback from the teams regarding the noise testing, Bruel & Kjaer are offering a series of FREE seminars on acoustics, vibration and NVH problem solving to up to three members of your Formula SAE team! Bruel & Kjaer is pleased to present the unique opportunity to teams who participated in the 2012 event and/or who are going to participate in the 2013 events.

The courses listed below are being offered September 25-27 in Plymouth, MI.

Principles of Acoustics – Tuesday, September 25th, 2012
This course will focus on the understanding, measurement and description of sound and noise. It will include an explanation of acoustical terminology, means of describing noise for industrial products and community applications, noise generation processes and an explanation and demonstration of equipment and techniques for noise measurement.

Principles of Vibration – Wednesday, September 26th, 2012
The course introduces vibration theory and the measurement of vibration. The course emphasizes proper use of vibration instrumentation and covers the measurement chain from transducer to vibration meters and frequency analyzers. Afternoon workshops allow attendees to gain hands-on experience with vibration measurements. Recommended for engineers involved with product design, product testing, quality assurance, or R&D.

NVH Problem Solving – Thursday, September 27th, 2012
This course is meant to provide a strategy and understanding of the tools involved to solve a product sound and/or vibration concern.  (With hands-on instruction and several case-studies, this course walks through the standard troubleshooting process that an experienced S&V Engineer would go through to address a sound or vibration concern.)  The importance and options of making an objective measurement that represents the product concern is reviewed along with some key aspects to making a repeatable test.  Once the concern is understood, identification of the sound or vibration source is reviewed in detail along with an introduction to the latest measurement techniques.  The course then focuses on strategies to identify the path of the noise from the source to the response location in order to make decisions on how to improve the product performance.  The course concludes with a discussion on appropriate S&V design improvements and countermeasures based on the results from the troubleshooting investigation and the product design envelope.
