Rakibul Islam Honored With SAE International Technical Standards Board Outstanding Contribution Award

WARRENDALE, Pa., Nov. 19, 2012 - Rakibul Islam, vice president, engineering, Zodiac Aerospace, has won the Technical Standards Board Outstanding Contribution Award from SAE International. He was presented with the award earlier this year at a committee meeting held in San Diego.

Established in 1953, this award recognizes individuals for outstanding service in the technical committee activities of the Society. This includes unusual leadership in the activities of an SAE International technical committee, significant contributions as a representative of the Society to the accomplishments of technical committees of other organizations or agencies, and outstanding contributions to SAE International technical committee work in the form of research, test methods and procedures and/or development of standards.

Mr. Islam has 17 years of experience with transport airplane seating industry in technical and management roles in new product development, design engineering, stress analysis, simulation and certification. He has led transport airplane seat industry teams since 1999 on various standards and regulatory developments.

Mr. Islam serves as chair of the SAE Aircraft Seat Committee. He authored the SAE International standards “AIR6448 and ARP6448: Gaining Approval for Seats with Integrated Electronics in Accordance with AC21-49 Option 7b.”

He earned a bachelor’s of science degree in Mechanical Engineering from California State University, Los Angeles.
