Ricardo UK Manager Jon Andersson Honored with the SAE International/InterRegs Standards & Regulations Award

WARRENDALE, Pa., Feb. 13, 2013 - Jon Andersson, manager of Aftertreatment and Chemical Analyses, Shoreham Technical Centre of Ricardo UK, was honored with the SAE International/InterRegs Standards & Regulations Award during the SAE International 2013 Government/Industry Meeting, held in Washington, D.C.

Established in 2000, this award recognizes a practicing engineer who has provided significant contributions to standards, regulations or conformity assessment systems for improved safety or reduced emissions in a ground vehicle mobility product.

In his role with Ricardo, Mr. Andersson is responsible for fuels and lubricants, catalysis, chemical analysis and legislative areas. Educated as an Analytical Chemist at Kings College, University of London, he is now in his 21st year at Ricardo. During his career he has worked on topics as diverse as the application of novel chemical analysis techniques to vehicle emissions, designing and blending representative gasoline and diesel fuels from pure chemical components - in order to study and model fuel chemistry impacts on performance and emissions - and the development and testing of emissions control systems for all types of internal combustion engines.

For the past 15 years, Mr. Andersson has been the Ricardo in-house expert on measurement methods, chemical analyses and influences on production for particles and particulates from light-duty vehicles and heavy-duty engines. He was appointed as the ‘Golden Engineer’ in the Particle Measurement Programme (PMP), which developed, proved and eventually assisted in the implementation of particle number legislation in Europe. He has been involved with the PMP for more than 10 years, including authoring the technical scope for the test work, and leading the data-processing and reporting tasks.

He is an the author of more than 40 technical papers, many of them with SAE International, and in 2004 was co-winner of the SAE International Arch T. Colwell Merit award for his paper on issues with measuring PM from DPF-equipped engines (SAE Paper 2004-01-1990). In 2010 he received the Ricardo ‘Engineering Excellence’ award.
