New Materials for Mobility Industries Technology Report Now Available from SAE International

WARRENDALE, Pa., May 2, 2013 - A new report, “Technology Insights for Mobility Industries – New Materials,” is now available exclusively to SAE International members through the online collaborative platform EngineerXchange.

Providing technical insights and career guidance to engineers who want to position themselves to solve the engineering challenges of tomorrow, the report includes guidance from industry experts, engineers, and business managers in the automotive, aerospace, and commercial vehicle manufacturing industries.

The report discusses:

- The types of new materials under development, including new metal alloys and composite materials

- The technical challenges, including design, bonding, manufacturing and testing, facing systems developed with these new materials

- The engineering disciplines that will be most important to solving these challenges

“Airplanes, trucks and cars all strive for cost-effective designs that use less energy and produce less pollution,” said Winn Hardin, consultant and author of the report for SAE International’s EngineerXchange. “But simply developing a new, lightweight material is only part of the answer. The material must be cost effective to manufacture, and add to the overall safety and robustness of the mobility platform itself. New material development is truly on the cutting edge of mobility science and engineers that position themselves to participate in this field can be sure that their work will have wide reaching impact on our every day lives, from how we commute to work to how our groceries are delivered to the corner store.”
