SAE Motorsports Engineering Call for Papers

WARRENDALE, Pa., May 28, 2013 - NOTE TO ALL SAE COLLEGIATE DESIGN SERIES FACULTY ADVISORS

The SAE’s Motorsports Engineering Activity is looking for motor sports related papers to be presented at the SAE Congress (or other appropriate venues), AND, more importantly, published by the SAE.

Therefore, we would like you, as Team Faculty Advisors to encourage your students to write and submit papers to SAE-I. These can be derived from Master’s or Doctorial theses. Papers that are submitted will be reviewed by a minimum of three (3) experts in the appropriate field. Having a paper accepted by the SAE should be encouraged as a part of a student’s education. The standards for papers are high, but not unreachable, as we have had many very good “student” papers in recent years.

Starting with the 2014 Congress, the MSEA will be working with other Session Chairmen and will be placing motor sports related papers in the mainstream technical sessions, not in a motor sports only session as has happened for the past three years.

The Call for Papers for the 2014 Congress was issued at the 2013 Congress last month, with abstracts being due by September 1st 2013.  While we would certainly like to see as many student papers as possible for 2014, unless your students were already planning on submitting a paper, there will probably not be sufficient time to meet the deadlines. However, we would like to encourage you to plan ahead and set in motion plans for 2015 and beyond.

We would like to remind you that even if the author(s) cannot attend Congress to present an approved paper in person, it will still be published as a “Written Only” paper. Therefore, travel constraints should not discourage your students from submitting.
