SAE International's 2013 Active Safety Systems Symposium to Feature Top Industry Experts and Visionaries

WARRENDALE, Pa., Aug. 15, 2013 - Active safety issues and technologies that impact both industry and consumers will be at the forefront of SAE International’s Active Safety Systems Symposium, Nov. 5-7. 

The three-day symposium, which will be held at the Doubletree Hotel in Detroit/Dearborn, Mich., will strive to develop new strategies that will sustain the downward trend in injuries and fatalities that are caused by traffic accidents in the United States.

The symposium will host many of the industry’s experts who will speak to the challenges of implementing this technology, introducing it to consumers, and including government regulations into an evolving strategy that is moving toward fully autonomous vehicles. Keynote presentations include:

 

- “Active Safety Systems: Its Promises, Possibilities and Challenges in Achieving Total Safety” – Joseph Kanianthra, Active Safety Engineering LLC (Former Associate Administrator for Vehicle Safety Research NHTSA -Retired NHTSA, USDOT)

-  “Long Term View of Active Safety as Seen by Google” – Anthony Levandowski, Google Product Manager for Google's Self-Driving Car Technology

- “Toyota's Approach to ‘Integrated Safety’” – Mr. Seigo Kuzumaki, Toyota Motor Corporation Chief Safety Technology Officer Secretary Project General Manager, Product Planning Group

The agenda also includes exploring current safety technologies, OEM applications of near-term and long-term active safety systems, and increasing the future development of autonomous vehicle technology.

Additional discussions will include: cost and benefits, development strategies of OEMs, a review of research needs and gaps analysis, global standardization and development of standards, and tests and data needs.
