Victor Mendez, Acting Deputy Secretary for U.S. Department of Transportation, to Speak at SAE International Government/Industry Meeting

WARRENDALE, Pa., Jan. 21, 2014 - Victor Mendez, acting deputy secretary for the U.S. Department of Transportation, is the featured speaker  at the opening breakfast of SAE International’s 2014 Government and Industry Meeting in Washington, D.C.

Mendez is scheduled to speak at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22.

As acting deputy secretary, Mendez is the Department of Transportation’s chief operating officer, responsible for the agency’s day-to-day operations and its more than 55,000 employees. Mendez is focused on transportation’s key role in economic development and providing the foundation for America’s future prosperity.

He previously was the administrator of the Federal Highway Administration. Before joining the Department of Transportation, Mendez served as director of the Arizona Department of Transportation.

The SAE International Government & Industry Meeting will be held Jan. 22-24 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. The theme for the 2014 Government & Industry Meeting is Continuing Collaboration for the Protection of Road Users and the Environment. The annual event focuses on understanding how technology, regulations and legislation affect the design of light and heavy duty vehicles in terms of safety, environment and energy conservation. The meeting provides opportunities for technical authorities from government, industry and academia who are leading advanced automotive technology, regulations and pending legislation to address issues that will influence future decision making within the industry.
