GEMCORęs Mangus Receives SAE Thomas H. Speller Award
WARRENDALE, Pa., Oct. 9, 2008 -
William Mangus of GEMCOR in West Seneca, N.Y. , is the recipient of SAE International's Thomas H. Speller Award. Mangus was presented the award during the Aerospace Manufacturing and Automated Fastening Conference & Exhibition in North Charleston, S.C. , in September.
This award, established in 1983, recognizes the achievements of an individual who has significantly contributed to the implementation of manufacturing processes and methodologies in the area of automated fastening machines and their applications. The award's namesake, Thomas H. Speller Sr., founded GEMCOR in 1937 and is considered by many to be the father of automatic fastening. The award is funded through the SAE Foundation. In addition to supporting the awards, recognition and scholarship programs of SAE International, the SAE Foundation develops and funds programs and incentives that foster student interest in engineering, scientific and technical education. Mangus is named on several patents, including the G2000 Fastening System and a Double Flush Fastening System for missile bodies. He is a member of SAE International and has participated as an author and presenter at four Aerospace Manufacturing and Automated Fastening Conferences. Mangus resides in North Tonawanda, N.Y.
