Regenerative Electric Powered Flight

Phil Barnes, Cal Poly engineering alumnus and 30-year Northrop-Grumman engineer experienced in modeling aerodynamic, propulsion, and subsystems performance, draws from several of his SAE technical papers to study of the feasibility of 'Regenerative Soaring,' whereby the propeller of an electric-powered aircraft operates as a turbine in updrafts, periodically re-charging the battery. In principle, an autonomous 'smart regen' with efficient aerodynamics and systems can remain aloft indefinitely, extracting energy day and night from vertical atmospheric motion. Do not miss this interesting preview of the next generation of electric-powered flight.

From Orange County / Anaheim
Take Route 57 north. Exit Temple Avenue and make a left hand turn.
Take Temple Avenue to University Drive and make a right hand turn.
