The 7 May 2014 F-1 Racing event was a tremendous success. SAE NE had 25 racers make it down to Braintree for an excellent night of racing and networking. We had a great mix of college students, young practicing engineers, seasoned veterans and retirees. Business cards and resumes were exchanged. We even had a new member sign up to participate in this event. Everyone had at least 3 races and most got more. The racing was incredibly fun and challenging with a number of board members getting penalties for driving infractions. We all enjoyed pizza, networking and a cold beverage in the very nice restaurant / bar at F-1. Thanks to board member Adam Green from CD-Adapco for setting up this event.
5 May Formula School Day NHMS
We had 7 SAE members make it up to New Hampshire Motor Speedway for the Hybrid Formula Design Competition School Day. Jon Grosjean, Ian Cook, Phil Steenstra, Josh Freed, Greg Green and Marc Goulet, joined me in providing tours to over 140 high school students from all over NH. I really enjoy going into the infield and pit areas of the speedway, seeing the college team designed cars and telling kids about the cool things you do as an engineer in SAE.
6 Feb 2014 Cars and Canals
The electric cars and Canal event was enjoyed by 27 people. We had a fascinating talk on the engineering marvel of the Middlesex canal and itâs influence on establishing engineering in America and then got to check out a Nissan Leaf from Autofair in Tewksbury and a SMART car electric from the SMART Center of Lynnfield. Many members complimented the format of an interest place and an automotive subject.
