The Quad City Engineering and Science Council cordially invites you to
the 48th Annual National
Engineers Week Banquet, Friday, February 19, 2010 at the
Arsenal Club located on Arsenal Island.
- Keynote Speaker Congressman Phil Hare will speak on How
Congress is
Addressing Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) and,
How STEM affects the Quad Cities.
- Guest Speaker Dr. Jeffery Weld, Director of Iowa
Mathematics &
Science Education Partnership, will speak on Overview on STEM Education
Efforts Across Iowa. Dr. Weld is past President of the Iowa
Science Teachers and of UNI's chapter of Sigma Xi - The Scientific
Research Society.
- Kris Leinicke, Arsenal Museum Director, will present
History of Arsenal
Island.
- Edward Flinn, Director of Science and Engineering, will
present
Engineering and Science Accomplishments at Joint Manufacturing and
Technology Center (JMTC).
- QCESC will announce the scholarship and award winners at
the
banquet. Jr. & Sr. Engineer of the Year;
Jr. & Sr. Scientist of the Year; Lifetime Achievement Award;
Society of the Year and STEM Teacher of the Year.
We as Scientists and Engineers are interested in the promotion
of Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM)
education and it is the teachers of our K-12 and secondary schools
charged with the teaching and encouraging of the next
generations. We would like to challenge our fellow engineers
to bring a teacher interested in STEM education. If you do
not know a STEM teacher to invite, we can locate one or more teachers
for you to sponsor at our 48th Annual Engineers Week Banquet and hear
first hand from Congressman Phil Hare.
