Aerospace Manufacturing Technology Conference & Exposition Technical Session Schedule Thursday, September 11 Span Time Reduction - Panel (Session Code: AMT22) Room 510B  10:30 a.m. Collective System Design (CSD) is a product development and delivery strategy that allows for the development of a Production System Model (or map) enabling detailed design and implementation of robust manufacturing systems. CSD facilitates the development of a precedence network that identifies the functional requirements of a manufacturing system and maps them to their corresponding solutions. This ensures that production systems are lean by design and allows for the use of Lean/Six Sigma and Value Stream Mapping tools for continuous improvement activities. The framework is centered on cost, quality, problem resolution, span time reduction, predictable output, and product design. CSD is an emerging methodology being applied across several industries and has been adopted by Lockheed Martin for the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) program and the F-22 mid-fuselage built in Fort Worth. The span time reduction session will focus on concepts and techniques for defining, quantifying, and reducing span time in the manufacturing process. Topics will include standard work, recognition of non-value added processes, and critical path identification.
