Design for automated fastening and assembly helps reduce the cost and complexity of assembly and enables more efficient automated drilling and fastening of aircraft components. Topics include designing to reduce the number and type of fasteners, the use of adhesives and bonding, standardization of the types and sizes of fasteners, designing for automated drilling and fastening equipment access, use of one sided fasteners, rivetless nut-plates etc.
